how to make my truck idle at 1 rpm..

so the tacoma i just purchased isnt exactly idling at 1 rpm when at a complete stop or in park, instead its off and i want to know what needs to be done to fix it.

it idles likes this

its a 01 prerunner tacoma v6 if that makes any difference =)

 

the numbers relate to 1000


I don't believe it is supposed to idle @ 1000

 

Why so dead set on your truck idling at 1K? When I still had my truck it idled at about 800.

 

You don't want it idling too high bud. As long as it ain't dying you'll be alright.

No problem. If I remember correctly, you actually want to idle as low as possible. I'm guessing bc the engine would run cooler, use less gas, and what not.

Should be a difference in idling when in park and when at a stop. (Presuming you are an Auto). Park should produce higher idling than stopped in Drive by about 200 rpm.

 

Welcome to TW! Based on the creative graphic I would say you're looking pretty good. If I recall correctly, my 3.4L has been idling between 500 & 750 (when warm) for it's whole life.

 

yea you def want it as low as possible with out studdering, stalling or shaking. Where you are at now looks completely normal.

A higher Idle would be pushing you while you are stopped at a redlight (if you are auto)

 

I believe 700-800 RPM is the ideal rate.

 

Yeah, mines a little high, about 5K last I checked- OOOPS !! my gas pedal is stuck WFO !!......

 

Tell you what made my idling go down... I used seafoam! That stuff is great for rough and weird idling trucks... I know it sounds crazy but it works... I have an 06 tacoma and just used it like two weeks ago... its great! Get some and following the instructions. Pour some in the gas tank... let some suck through the vacuum or induction line, and add it to your oil when your just about ready for it to be changed! It works wonders.

 

my 01 has idled at 500 its whole life

 

Same with him, unless the ac is on then its around 800-900

 

i believe the service manual specs 650-800rpm but if it has some miles the idle control may need to be cleaned

 

i idle a 700 rpm about

 

they messed with my idle after i got it smogged. almost stutters at lights, could be something related. 4 banger btw

 

I idle from 500 rpm to 1800... your fine.....

Check for vacuum leaks..
