2017 Rear sliding window retrofit into 2016 tacomas

Just wondering if anyone has done this or looked into it.

My dealer said it couldn't be done because the 16 model isn't pre wired for the electric window.
I'm sure it can be done if one knew a little about wiring

 

Sure it could be done. Don't see it being huge demand however for the likely high cost of parts (glass) and labor required. I literally have not used my back sliding window once in over a year of ownership and 20k miles. others may have some use for it but I find that when its open on other trucks I've had it serves to create a Vortex that just blows crap into the cab of the truck from the bed.

 

I've had my truck since August, and have yet to open back slider

 

What they really meant was, we don't know how to do it, we don't want to do it because we don't build custom wiring to accommodate such changes, and we don't want to be responsible for said wiring changes.

Toyota 'could' make a PnP retrofit kit 'if' they wanted to. But likely there'd not be enough uptake to make it worth their while.

What we need to see is a '17 w/a stripped down interior. There may not be glass work needed beyond the slider itself.

 

You think we were building a space ship. Doesn't look to be that complicated.

 

I don't think it's that big of a change because that wouldn't be cost effective for Toyota to change tooling or assembly line after one year of the model being in production

 

So I'm hoping it's a relatively easy mod.

 

Not saying easy. The market is still new on these mods. You can always contact a dealer and see if they would price the parts. Won't be cheap

 

I use my sliding window almost daily. It is a great feature. I think a lot of people with 2016 Tacomas do not use it that much because it does not have a button to open and close it. The manual task of opening it is a burden to most.

 

I've never opened mine because I can't reach it.

 

That is what I was trying to say. I really like having the button up front. It is a great feature, and should have came with the 16's in my opinion.

 

My dog demands the back window be opened (in the summer). So I will have to figure out how to rig up the window to be automatic. I used an actuator and a couple pulleys/cable to make the window in the '09 automatic for about $90. Worked great, but there was noise from the actuator. I think I have a better method for this time around but I need warm weather to really dig into it. In the double cab, it's nearly impossible for me to reach that back window.

I cant believe the 16's did not come with the sliding window that the 17's have.... damn shame

 

I have only opened the window once since Feb '16. I just use my sunroof instead

 

I have used mine about a half dozen times , when buying 8 foot + molding and boards etc. I did not want wet . I do not see any need for an electric window though.

 

If you had the electric window you would think differently in my opinion. The price on the 16's and 17's are pretty much identical so it is just another feature. I like having it a lot. It all boils down to personal preference.

 

Do you have the mounting tabs for the motor behind the seat? Besides the motor it just has a thick cable going to and from like a bicycle brake line, and then an electric harness
