which is almost 2x what every old school mechanic or oil change location recommends.... and just because they recommend it and they are physical people that aren't "on the internet" doesn't mean they are right.

Yeah, that's old school and the oil companies and Auto Parts folks love you for it! To each their own. Enjoy what you work hard to afford and treat it just as you want!

    Nothing worthy
    Clarify what you mean.
I know its not a manual transmission but it gives you the ability to control your shifts, not the truck...
    Limits max gear?

It just won't stop snowing here in Colorado so it's a bit hard to fully open my truck up. However, I can give you a quick mini-review of the sound. It definitely gives the engine sound more of that deep "WHA" sound however, it's not obnoxious. There doesn't appear to be any bad drone sound in the cab either. With it being a TRD part, I'm sure Toyota tuned this intake so it would still make your everyday driving enjoyable. However, at full throttle and higher rpm's there is a noticable sound signature added. More to come in regards to performance and mpg (not expecting a huge difference with mpg).

Nice rant. The only trouble is they're NOT the same item. They do look similar if you're just looking at them online though.

Finally decided on what tire to get and installed the Sema Wheels. How original right? Haha
I ended up going with Cooper Discovery ATP Passenger Rated 265/70/17 tires. So far so good. Keeping my fingers crossed that these tires are good to me haha

I'll be straight up honest with you. There are huge arguments/discussions about performance gains with upgraded performance intakes. Coming from a background of having a performance intake installed in my 2000 Taco, I know one of the gains you get with a performance intake is with throttle response and rpm ramping. Hp is something that is always up for debate so I won't even go there. I also love the sound signature you get with performance intakes. To me, that's an upgrade as well. afe makes a pretty sick performance intake however, aside from the aforementioned gains I desired, I really liked the look of the TRD intake and it "completes" my TRD Pro by adding something TRD under the hood (why wouldn't Toyota just add this standard on the TRD Pro???).

I ended up getting the intake for $370 out the door but that was only from a friends and family discount I received. There was someone selling these here on TW for $388 out the door which is still an awesome price. I also think I saw the TRD intake for a good price through Toyota of Dallas or something like that. If you search around, you'll find a good deal.

I do want to mention that the kit comes with a TRD performance filter and it's much different than the stock filter. It's reusable, oiled, and about 2/3 the width of the stock filter (Picture below). With this kit, you do end up reusing the stock bottom portion of the filter box which was fine with me. I'll be doing a full review of this intake in a few days so look for it here on TW.

Looks great! Nice reasonable tires and size. I have an MGM as well. I thought I didn't really like black wheels, but those are looking pretty good. I am considering the Gray version of the TRD SEMAs. Any more pics for other angles?

Notice any difference in MPG? Guessing those will be much better than some huge A/T tires.

Yes, yes it does hurt to leave it idling for 10 minutes to warm up, completely unnecessary and dilutes your oil.

    Thanks so much.
Thanks so much. Trying to decide between this one or the airaid one I attached below. Any suggestions would be helpful. I'm sure they are pretty similar and have their own differences. Would like to hear others thoughts. I'll look for the review

it doesn't give you the ability to control your shifts. when you switch to sport mode, it sets the max limit on the gear the vehicle can go into. for example, if you switch over and leave it as is, it defaults to 5. Drive around and you aren't going to be in 5th gear. it will be up and down shifting and limit out the gears at the 5th one. ie, it won't let the transmission shift into 6th gear. if you "downshift" in sport mode, it is limiting the max gear to whatever the lower gear is that you set it to. in a way, if you are "shifting" it, it can seem like you are treating it like a manual transmission, but if you start it and 1 and then putz along at 10mph, all the while shifting through the gears up to 6, it's only going to stay in whatever gear it needs for 10mph @ the load you are using.

go test it out.. move the selector over into S mode and leave it set at 5 or whatever.. then go drive around. when you stop, it doesn't change the indicator to say "1" for first gear. it leave the indicator at 5 because that is the max gear you set it to.

To be honest, the only two intakes I was debating was the TRD version and the afe GT version with the air scoop. Airraid makes good stuff but the extra options you get with the afe version are pretty stellar. If you're not going TRD, I would recommend the afe intake. Someone posted a pic of this one a few pages back in this thread.

A lot of vehicles that have an automatic transmission with a manual shift option actually allow you to select a specific gear and the transmission won't shift out of that gear unless you are trying to do something stupid. This is not what Toyota vehicles use though.

Toyota's S mode gear select allows you to choose a maximum allowable gear. I.e. if I go into S mode and select 4 it will shift from 1-2-3-4 but then not shift past 4. If you are trying to shift "manually" in S mode and are accelerating and upshifting when you see fit and go through 1-2-3-4-5-6 at normal acceleration and then stomp on the gas, it will downshift itself to 3 or 4 for that hard acceleration input without you shifting it. Whereas in a true manual-option automatic, if you were in 6 and stomped the gas, it would just lug in 6th gear.

    Hopefully that makes sense.
