Back when I was racing dirt bikes and drawing a paycheck from Honda, we would fly to some races, get a rental, and just meet up with our equipment at the race site. We would occasionally have a "rental car moto" between the Suzuki guys and the Yamaha guys and the Kawasaki team riders and us! We would batter these car! Usually just a cheap mid size low performance rental, there were times we just about had to have them towed back to the rental return site. At a race in Texas one time, I got a Chevy S 10 Blazer (2wd) I was returned with a front fender (literally) duct taped on. We got a scathing letter from Honda/HRC office after that one!

There is not a lot of things more fun than hammering a car that you don't have to ever see again, and you don't have to pay for the damage!

 

Hopefully he didn't go buy a 32mm cause that's wrong. It's a 35mm or 1 3/8"

 

Well fuck. I am certain I have a 32mm in my kit. Guess I also have a 35mm. maybe 32mm is for the LR UBJs....

Yeah the LR balljoint takes a 32mm/1-1/4". That's why I added one in my box along with a breaker bar to tighten the hell out of it.

Would have been nice if that worked for both...

32 is likely for LR UCA. I use a 1-1/4 on that. (32mm=1.26 inch)

All my big sockets are inch sizes. Will see if i have a 1-3/8. That's 1.375 inch which = 34.93mm so hopefully close enough.

When i reassemble cv, how do i know it's into the dif far enough? Will I feel it click or something?

Doesn't that spline nut torque to something like 175 ftlb? My torque wrench only goes to 150.

I use a 1 3/8".

Not exactly click in but you won't be able to pull it back out. There's also a dust boot that should touch the diff or come really close.

And yeah, torque spec I think is 178. Mine only goes to 150 as well so I tighten it to that and then use a breaker bar and tighten it more. Last time I pulled my cv's I broke a 1/2" extention in half trying to loosen 1 nut so I said fuck it and bought my 1200 ft lbs breaking torque impact gun. Haha

 

Is an ARB an upgrade?

Do you plan on buying bigger then stock tires for the next truck? Got any intentions of putting lower gears in? If so, swap diffs with Zachk with some cash on top, say $200, and then order front and rear diffs from ECGS with whatever gears you want and a new locker. That gets Zachk a 2wd truck, so you're helping him out, puts a stock rear end back in your totaled truck and puts $200 towards a brand new locker and lower gears that you wanted to buy anyway. Now you look like a nice guy for helping out a desperate college kid in need and only have to use a fraction of that settlement on something that greatly improves the truck.
