You sure can, but you'll get very little of that build money back out of it.

He wants to buy a truck, not buy it, build it and sell it lol.

He still drives cherokees with crank windows, he will probably own it until it rots apart.

That being said you won't get much back out of a pro after a while, when the suspension starts to wear out who is going to want to buy a used Pro and put thousands into replacing the overpriced suspension? I'm not unhappy with the Pro as a truck, If they actually sold for what the "MSRP" is they wouldn't be bad at all. It's when the dealers hike the prices up $6k for "market adjustment", that right there can buy your offroad a great suspension system

I don't think you can say that authoritatively. Tell that to the guy getting 70% out of his 12 YO truck.

I was shopping for a gen1 for a beater. Even with rusty frame incomplete recalls they were selling for 12-15k with 6 figure mileage.

A limited release Taco will return way more $ a decade later.

The two things I know for sure are:
    • Asking prices are asking prices. What stuff actually sells for is often different, and not so easy to determine.
    • My 02 4Runner would still be in the the driveway if I'd been trying to get even 50% of its original cost.
Buy what meets your needs and makes you happy. Save return on investment calculations for non-depreciating assets.

I'm a cheapskate... just optimizing ROI for depreciating assets as well.

OP, I think if we knew more about what you want to achieve of the truck we might be able to make a better decision. I to some degree fall in your boat. I got a 12' Baja that for the most part has no resemblance outside of the sticker on the bedsides anymore due to my upgrades. I came to getting this vehicle for two reasons, at the time I was hoping by me getting a nice upgraded truck from the factory that it might sway my hunger for upgrades. In essence it did for about 4 years, of course replacing a tail light woke the beast up and I have been having fun with it ever since. Second off, I got this at the end of the year and this was the dealer demo model so I got it for about 31k with all options instead of 48 new with 7k miles on it which screamed to me at the time.

I don't regret getting this vehicle and considering the deal I had available vs getting new it was a win-win for me. If I were to buy new, I would of went for the TRD OR instead of the Baja. As far as the Pro, to me the suspension is nice IF you never plan to upgrade it, but if calculate the suspension is what you are paying about 4k+ extra for. Depending on how long you have been on here and if you searched any of the upgrade options from a suspension point of view, you can get a really nice mid travel kit for about the same price.

If my Baja was still stock and I decided to sell it to the dealer, I doubt I would get more than $1500 tops over a regular TRD which when your truck is $30k+ is that little bit more of change really worth it? These are my questions for you...

    1. Do you plan to offroad the truck and are ok maybe getting some scratches down the road?
    2. Are you open and/or comfortable getting into aftermarket components?
    3. Do you need NEW?
    4. Do the aesthetic badges/special edition interior matter?

There isnt any ORs going for 32k. Thats crazy talk.

Yes you can build a better truck, but my time is just as valuable. Parts/labor OR < Pro imo.

I agree a Raptor would be lovely, buT come on! I just did a quick look here in Canada...the typical Raptor is DOUBLE the price of my LOADED Taco...so lets be realistic here. I'd buy a Raptor in a second, but this is NOT apples to apples....it's not even in the same ballpark.

If you can afford the Pro and plan to keep it stock buy the Pro. If you plan to mod your truck and go off road then I would buy the Off Road. From a cost comparison analysis, its not worth the premium.

I always wondered what the meaning behind the "splash" was in the ford ranger. Off-road water-falling.

4x4 or 4x2? What tax rate? Base OR with P&T is $38k MSRP before TTL here. 6% tax puts it over $40k OTD MSRP.
