Very cool! Another vote for white, super easy to keep clean and scratches are harder to see.

Go with white. All the 1st gen black tacos (and the other darker colors with clearcoat) all suffer from clearcoat degradation.

I like the green too! My friend had one in and I always liked it.

I beg to differ. Mine is 16 years old in this pic with my brand new RX350 and it is near perfect and I can assure you every single inch of its clearcoat is intact. It depends on how cared for the truck is.
    Your statement is not accurate.

Is your Tacoma garage kept? I waxed mine all the time but the clear coat still started to fail a little on the roof, at which point I decided to dip the truck to keep it from getting any worse. Alabama summers are hell on a paint job. Since you and OP are both in CA itd probably be more favorable conditions

Yeah it is garaged, especially for the last year it's hibernating in my girl's garage on a trickle charger. But for its first two years of life it was outside all the time, and after that only spent nights in a garage but sat out in the elements all day at work etc. I applied Klasse sealant glaze faithfully every 4 months and only washed with plain hot water with no soap. I remember some car care guru here arguing that my hot water method was wrong 'cause "the rag wasn't lubed with the soap" or some crap. If you have a solid smooth sealed finish, your rag don't need "lube". My point to the guy was his statement that ALL black and dark Tacos suffered degradation is not accurate.

    Prerunner??
No 4wd? You should really consider not going 2wd, might kick yourselves later down the road when its very much needed...stuck in some stupid spot you pulled off the road or get a bit of snow and your stuck spinning in some stupid spot that no one should be stuck while you watch front wheel drive cars drive around you and keep going lol...even if it dont snow ever where you're at ya never know when you might be somewhere that it will snow or maybe a job will take you elsewhere? Just consider and think about it, thats all im sayin...

Just something to think about too, and dont get me wrong here any first gen is better than anything else besides an equally awesome 3rd gen 4runner of course. But ive always sorta been turned off by the later model 03's and the 04's because of the additional digital components that arent seen on older 1st gens. Now i would gladly own any year and newer the better! But i absolutely hate all the electrical and.digital driven components that engulf newer rigs of today and toyota was certainly going that route with the newer 1st gens. I really wanted 01-04 as well when i was on the hunt for my trucks but each time only due to awesome deals i ended up with 00's (really wanted the face lift of the 3rd gen 1st gens). With those 2000's i have become quite pleased with the lack of digital components, most everything is still mechanical where as the next 4 years saw the replacement of mechanical with digital components in various areas. Electrical hvac controlls and the throttle by wire system was born, both of which seems very unnecessary, to me atleast. Then the complexity of troubleshooting and maintenance icreases as does cost of replacement parts(which will fail sooner than mechanical components in my opinion)and the time needed and cost of a mechanic if needed on these later year 1st gens. I mean what was wrong with cable operated hvac controls? They worked just fine since the beginning of heaters in vehicles. I bet (and i base this off of threads i see here on TW) that there are more 95.5 tacos out there that have had less hvac issues than the 3rd gen 1st gens that have electronic controls that seem to have begun to have an assortment of functionality issues related to all the non mechanical pieces in the dash. Of course these arent huge deals that would scare me away and all 01-04's have this feature but not all jave the throttle by wire feature and another thing i can think of is the charcoal canister under the bed where the fuel tank is(not a new electrical element but a pain in the ass change that was made). This only came with the later year models, what a bitch to troubleshoot shoot that compaired to older models! Im sure there are other things i cant think of right now as well...

Any ways just something to chew on when looking at getting an 03 or 04. If there was an 01 and an 04 i was looking at with the same ootions, mileage and condition, i would go with the 01 everytime even though its a couple years older. In a perfect world id get a more mechanized 00 and do a front end swap to a 01-04 style lol. Im guess im just picky about newfangled crap that vehicles are completely adorned with these days. Ya just cant work on shit anymore and the cost of having a mechanic work o your rig is absurd any more!! Drives me nuts! I realize late model 1st gens are still very much able to be worked on by most people in their driveway but ya'll know what im saying i think...the last of the 1st gens were the beginning of the end of slowly and surly(atleast for the average guy)not being able to do much work on his own, with ease and simplicity of components at least...

    Guess what!

She's the proud owner of a 2000, White, v6, TRD off road, extra cab, Tacoma!

This guy was the original owner too! No rust on the frame anywhere, drive shaft is solid, no leaks, all oil/fluid was good, new tires, power windows and locks with a keyless entry maybe an alarm not sure we didn't test the alarm yet. We got him down to $7,200(She used the girl sad face lmao).

He was an older guy about late 60s early 70s that was retired crane operator next to the airport by my house. He was selling it because he bought an RV and wanted to buy a manual car/truck so he can tow it with his RV.
