I had a great experience with the sales team here but now I'm having serious problems with my 2016 tacoma. The truck has 15,000 miles on it and slams into gear or shudders like it's struggling to get into gear. There's page after page here about these trucks having transmission issues but according to them theres no know problems. I have taken the truck to Whesley Chapel Toyota 3 times now and it's actually there again right now. They said they were able to duplicate the problem but we're not going to service the transmission. They've already done the update on the transmission which fixed nothing so it's either low on fluid or something more serious inside the transmission. But all I get is sorry we can't do anything. This dealership talks about they're lifetime drive train warranty but won't even stand behind it after 15,000 miles. Sorry about the rant guys it just blows my mind to spend this kind of money at a dealership and have them spit in my face when I'm having a problem. If you need something fix it would avoid this place unless your paying out of pocket.

You need to call Toyota directly and get this complaint filed and go to a different dealership to get the work done afterwards.

You need to go straight to Toyota about this. It's one thing if they can't duplicate the problem you were describing, but if they are telling you they have but they "won't" (?) do anything about it? That's a big red flag right there... Time to go above their heads and stop wasting your time with a dealer who won't help you.

Could them you're going to fail the SHIT out of their service department surveys too if they don't take care of business.

I'm assuming it's just going to be low on tranny fluid, or at least I hope but thanks to toyota using a sealed transmission that's not a easy thing to check anymore. I was told by the service manager that the only way to check it is to drain all the fluid and then refill it which from what I've read on these fourms is bullshit. They havery yet to even check the fluid even though I've asked 3 times now cause they say you have to do a full transmission flush to check it...... come on guys. I'm hoping someone on here who has had the low tranny fluid issue tells what they had to do to get they're dealership to address it.

Check the fluid level yourself or take it to an independent tranny shop.... It sounds low... your tranny is likely fried by now, after 15,000

SEALED TRANSMISSION.... WTF..???? It ain't f'n "sealed", you dumb-ass Toyota Techs...!!! It's "missing a DIP f'n Stick". A $2.45 item...!

The next guy/tech that says the tranny is "sealed" needs to be fired and beat with a dip stick...!! What you guys think..??

I'm not sure why some guys think this tranny is a form of witchcraft than connects the engine and wheels. My 05 tundra had a "sealed" tranny, hardly new technology.

I've been seeing these reports, wondering to myself why it is acceptable to just add 3-4 quarts of fluid and send the owner on their merry way. A transmission is not unlike an engine. Hydrodynamic bearings everywhere I believe. Without enough lubrication, it is metal to metal. Have they proven that there is no damage caused by this condition? I would be pissed and demand an extended warranty!

Is there a write up somewhere here with directions for correctly checking the transmission fluid?

Suggestion; Contact the local consumer reports correspondent at one of the local television Stations, Channel 8, 10, or 13 if you are where I think you are, in the Tampa Bay Area, as well as the consumer affairs reporter for the Tampa Bay Times newspaper, and tell them ALL about it. Most businesses like car dealers HATE lousy publicity, and most will suddenly "Discover" that there was a real problem with your truck, and they will fix it instead of bad publicity and bad press being spread all over the local media. Also, go to the dealership with your laptop, log in, and go to THIS thread, and show them the power of numbers...service managers and sales managers HATE it when you do that...

What do you mean by a "sealed tranny"...?? Does that mean there are no drain or fill plugs in it..? If that's the case then That would be a truly "sealed" Tranny... If there are plugs to fill and drain, I cannot understand how anyone can call that a "sealed" tranny... CUZ it ain't..
I can "un-seal" that thing in a heartbeat.... just remove that plug..!!

The dealer reps don't know or don't care... or don't care to know. At the end of the day you are the one with a problem not them. They're fine. And no, "Toyota" doesn't really care either. Sorry to pop a bubble there. But don't let that detract form all of us wringing our hands on the interwebs! : )

I had this "shudder" issue twice just days before I got rid of my 3rd gen. Did it both times cruising along at about 38-40 mph. Scared the shit out of me the first time. I thought it was the motor about to die on me because it did cut out on me about a week prior while pulling into a parking spot at work. These two things were the final straw for me. I never even brought it to the dealer to get looked at because I had already spent way too much time at the dealer for other issues. I did have my tranny fluid checked early in my ownership and they said it was fine. Who knows if they really checked it or not but they said they did.
