I did this the last few hours on my Gen 1:

    1) Akebono Pads
    2) New front Discs
    3) New Master cylinder
    4) New fluids.

Drove it about 15 miles. Drives excellent, stops excellent. Did the brake bed in.

    HOWEVER ONCE I GOT HOME:

I pulled the E Brake, and it doesn't come out as far as it did before. Does the parking brake need to be adjusted now? I didn't touch anything in the rear?

Parking brake is working perfectly as well.

    Appreciate the help

Previously the handle that is PULL AND TURN for my e brake took about 8 clicks.

Now it is clicking 3 times (went out and counted).

    1) I guess my question is, is that fine, or it needs adjustment, and how would I know?

    2) Are rear brake shoes a necessary adjustment when you do master cylinder, pads, rotors in the front?

You say the park brake is grabbing tight, right? Like, apply the park brake put in drive and rev rpm to 1200 and it holds taco from moving kinda tight?

kinda of funny 3 clicks my 2nd gen manual says7-11 clicks I think, 3 clicks seems way too tight, thing is on the 1st gen the parking brake adjusting mechanism is right under the truck. on my truck when I got it my parking brake was opposite I was on 11 clicks, then adjusted the rear brakes and then 7-8 clicks. sometimes those bellcranks on the rear brakes seize up with rust and wont fully release too,if you release the parking brake and then grab one of those bellcranks it should move pretty freely back and forth, if u cant it might be seized, but you can remove the drums and work that mechanism and wd40 to release them

Parking brake is holding excellent like it did before the job.

I tried as you said, and truck won't even move.

    So that is the question.

Without me TOUCHING anything, but doing the brake job, does it make sense the parking brake lever got "tight?"

Additionally 3 clicks is too tight, what is the RIGHT amount of clicks for the 1st gen, any one know?

No noticeable draglike feel while driving? You could also touch the rear brake drum, after driving then parking, through the wheel to see if it feels excessively warm. You're trying to determine if the park brake is dragging. If those things check out, then I'd say you are A-OK.

look in the owners manual for the clicks,im sure 3 is not right, if you do a search in the GEN1 section about it or parking brake adjustment im sure you can get an accurate answer on it and how to adjust it

    Thank you

I will go test it out if there is dragging or if it gets hot.

Hmmmm, not sure why they'd be dragging. Sounds like you'll have to adjust the shoes in a little behind the drums. Double check the park brake lines and linkages, etc. Maybe something bound up somehow and it's keeping the park brake applied slightly. Another post above mentioned something like checking that stuff out too. Report back.

Check where the linkage connects on the back side of the drum as well.

    Will do

However just as topic of convo if one changed pads in front
    Front rotors
    New fluid and master cylinder

It THEORETICALLY should have no impact on rear at all right ??

Yeah, that's what's racking my brain right now. I'm not coming up with any reason of why the park brake would've been tightened. You did the work right? Did you even remove the rear wheels? Doesn't sound like you would've needed to.

I think there is slight drag

    On a slight incline
Previously it would rock back a little

    Now doesn't rock at all
    Stays in place

Yeah, he can back the handle off and get a few clicks, but I'm wondering why or how that would've snugged up on him. I'm no know-it-all, hopefully someone has some thoughts.
