Should I put a deposit on a 2017 TRD Pro in white today?

I can't say what the 4Runner should be priced at, but you can do better on a Pro if you look elsewhere. You could find one across the country for $43k and have it shipped right to your door and still save $ compared to that.

4Runner will be a better overall vehicle unless you absolutely need a truck bed. Seating position, higher output 4.0L engine, less gear hunting, interior has more room (might not matter to you) built in Japan (also might not matter to you)

I test drove a trd sport double cab long bed and it was no where as nice as the 4Runner. Basically if you're dropping close to 50k on a vehicle take it for an hour or 2 and drive it! I really really wanted a 3rd gen taco, but the 4Runner trail premium suited me far better.

All this being said, if it wasn't for having a family I likely would be in a 3rd gen, looking back though, the more I drive the 4Runner the happier I am with my decision.

    Good luck.

We love our 4Runner. It has a very responsive throttle unlike the 3rd gen and it's a GREAT road trip vehicle. Very comfortable for seating and better cargo space. If you don't need a truck bed, I'd go with the 4Runner too!!

The offroad or even sport are very capable trucks in 4x4 just get some better tires. If you plan to mod...it makes no sense to buy the pro and depro it. I tale mine out to ohv parks, logging roads rock climbing you name it and lots of camping. Very capable trucks stock.

Resale value. Especially if you keep the stock parts. So that when you're done having fun with the truck, you put it back to stock and sell it for how much you paid if not a little more since that's how resale is going with the other pros. And then sell your mods for money back and you're good.

Thats the other option, you gotta relize im in canada also and the pro is crazy expensive compared to an offroad or sport, i think here the pro is 53k and or/sport are around 40k. I couldnt justify spending 10k more and then another 6-10k for a lift tires and bumper/lights. When i can do that to my truck and still be 10 k less. But you say resale for those who dont keep vehicles long and want to het a dcent return down the road then you are probably right. But i plan to drive mine into the ground. Sorry for the long post. Its ops choice i love em all... get the pro!

I searched for months looking for a White Tacoma TRD PRO A/T with no luck. I began calling Toyota dealerships within a 1 hour drive of my house and was speaking to sales people directly for them to search their inventory. They don't always list a PRO on their website because there is no need to, they sell so fast. I happened to get extremely lucky when a Taco dealer located in Philadelphia had just unloaded a white one off the delivery truck an hour before I called and no one had spoken for it yet. Not sure if they knew exactly what they had because it was the first one they had seen. I paid $45,500 (sticker) and opted for the extended warranty 6/100. I never even test drove the damn thing. The first drive occurred when I drove it home. I just fell in love with the look. I have already began modifications as with every vehicle I have ever owned. That goes with out saying for everyone that visits a car/truck forum...it's what we do.
My advice is to test drive several vehicles before you buy one or place a deposit. Definitely test driver a 4Runner and see if you like the ride better and like the additional cabin space and electric seats. Not everyone really needs a truck bed. This Tacoma TRD PRO is far from perfect and you are going to spend a lot on it and continue to spend on modifications no matter what model you get. If you can afford it, buy a car/truck that comes loaded with everything option you would ever want. I enjoy buying a new car that no one as wrecked or placed a ton of miles on. This 3rd gen. with it's new 3.5 and new body should be around for the next 10 years. I hate buying a car that is on its way out, it looks dated as soon as the new ones come out. They will be designing and developing aftermarket parts for this truck for many years to come.
Good luck with your decision and make sure you share it with us!

It's not mine I googled 4runner carrying Dirtbike or something like that and the photo came up from a 4runner forum. Try a google search images with that particular image and it should come back up. Sorry I'd do it but headed out to a meeting

Drive both and see what you like more. Id buy the cheaper one and pick the things you like and want to add to it. Make the truck more "you" rather then like the next one off the lot.

I'm into my OR just over a month and less than a 1k miles and I love it. More so than I expected. I wasn't looking for a new vehicle until my Wrangler decided, very uncharacteristically, to develop a piston slap. I wasn't in the mood to chase it, so I stopped into a Toy dealer. 2hrs later I walked out with the OR. Being surprised by how much I like the OR, I've started checking out the Pro. There is a better than zero chance I'll trade for pro in a few years.

Paying a $2500 market adjustment just rubs me wrong. A plebeian OR seems more than adequate for the intended use.

I originally purchased a taco off road 4x4 drove it for 2 weeks and took it back and got the pro. Best decision I could have made. There is nothing wrong with the trd off road it is very capable and a nice truck but you can definitely tell a difference driving the pro. I do agree tho that the premium charge is a little rediculous. I got lucky and got mine for msrp. If you like the pro and can talk the dealership into giving you a good deal I say go for it you'll love it!

As what others have said, it doesn't seem like you're ready to make this decision yet. I would take a couple days and research more about each trim of the Tacoma and then go and test drive whichever you have narrowed it down to. I test drove the OR and Sport three times each before deciding on which I enjoyed driving better. Only after that I realized I preferred the features of the OR and thats what I ended up getting. Inventory was limited so I drove 4.5 hours to a dealership who spent a months hunting one down for me. This was painful for me because I am the queen of instant gratification.

On a different note, one of the joys I have had since owning this truck has been working on it myself. I have been able to save money by avoiding installation fees while also learning new skills. So, I know you said you would take it somewhere to have all the work done. In the end that will get it done with no hassle for you but it will definitely cost more. You may consider doing the work yourself and with a friend to save some money and that way the costs to improve your truck won't be so intimidating. Plus, its rewarding!

Be patient and it will all work out. Good luck!

Advising someone to spend possibly 5 or 6 grand more than necessary to meet their needs is a wee bit loco.
