I have the new one. It is single piece of hefty cast aluminum. The underside doesn't look at all like the pics of the older version. No plastic at all on the new version.

From reading the old version instructions PDF and looking at numerous photos it seems to be plastic on stamped metal. I can't confirm though because I bought the new version. :)

The two versions should be interchangeable over model years though. Just clarifying they're not the same thing.

I have the 2nd gen running boards. On the second gen running boards, everything that you see is black, thats all plastic. The mounts are metal and the frame of the running board is aluminum. I liked the 2nd gen running boards because the pattern on the steps matches the bed caps on the bed.

I cant speak for the 3rd gens, but if they really are all aluminum, if i saw some for a good price i would probably make the switch. But def nothing wrong with the 2nd gens.

    Whole bunch of shit! $$$
Last year it was 5k, this year it's 10k....who knows what 2018 will be...15k 12k 18k......just do it when you want, can't hurt , and it will be in your best interest to change it early, and often......just my opinion. 10k is ridiculous, especially when only last year it was 5k.....hmmmmmm.

What makes you think that? It's been 10k for all v6 third gens since they came out. That's typical for synthetic.

You're not mixing up with the 4cyl 5K interval are you? I believe that motor still uses conventional, thus the lower interval.

    Corrected.

@Storman What made you think the 3rd gens had a 5,000 mile oil change interval for normal conditions?

I didn't forget your picture! Have a flood situation in my house nein worked on as we speak. Once resolved I'll run out and get you a picture. I can tell you though 2nd gen steps will work and are secure even though they'll be secured with 5 bolts rather than 6

I'm just like others that change their oil every 5k miles. For me, to spend an extra $30-40 dollars to change my oil ahead of schedule I'm okay with to go the extra mile to protect my $40k+ investment. I've always done my maintenance ahead of time and have put well north of 100k miles on vehicles and over 500k on my first Toyota Truck.

For those of you who took out this cubby, what size screw driver did you use? None of mine seem to be working and it's been frustrating as can be. Thank you!
