    :help::help::help:

I just pulled the truck out of the garage to washer it and found a couple drops of oil on the floor. Popped the hood and there is 0 oil! What the hell?!:frusty:
Is there a oil pan seal that could have caused this?!

I am on my way to pick up and new seal, oil and a filter. Has anyone heard of losing so much oil so fast from a seal?

Only a few drops of Oil on the floor? You must have parked it with NO oil in it in the first place. No oil pressure light when you parked it?

Yeah, from the pictures, it looks like it has been leaking while being driven.

Heads up OP. I think you have an oil leak.

Exactly! No lights at all. I had a meeting for work about a hr 1 way. Come home park it, then leave for about a 40 min round trip. When I got back from the second drive it noticed the drops but they were all very fresh.

I think it was blowing out while I was driving, I just don't know what could cause that to happen randomly

    I think that too.
You just happen to be that one in a million (or less). :(

Didn't happen to hit anything on the trip?
Would a drastic temperature change cause that seal to fail? Not sure. Just throwing an idea out.

Can you clean it up and identify where it is leaking from? Do you think it is a gasket or one of the seals? I bet you still have some oil in there, just not enough to register on the dipstick. Good luck, hope the fix is cheap.

You have a 2011 and no light came on when you dropped all your oil??
That seems to be a little bit unusual.

The whole thing seems a bit unusual. Do you change your own oil or have someone else do it? Over how many miles did this happen?

It looks like it wasn't leaking but full on spilling out. Especially if you have just a couple drops of oil on the floor of your garage.

When I change my oil, I almost have to have the bolt all the way out of the pan before oil starts coming out. If you do your oil changes yourself are you sure you screwed the bolt in straight and tightened it?

Crazyness. Hopefully it happened quickly and hasn't been that way for long. If it happened to me I would be doing a full change and in about 2-3K miles I'd change it again and send a test into Blackstone labs to check for metal shavings.

I am thinking like @ABNFDC said above that there is just enough to not trigger the light to come on, which would be a good thing for the engine. Hopefully no major damage was done :fingerscrossed: and he caught this in time.

Not that I know of, I was on a couple dirt roads. Possibly a rock hit it? but that was on the first trip.
I was 20 degrees last weekend and 70 this weekend so if that can affect it then this would be the time.

Its all gone, the dip stick was even starting to turn brown...

Nope, not a single light. Super weird if you ask me!!
It was due for an oil change so nothing that was messed up while changing it. Completely random!:annoyed:

Just hope you haven't cooked the engine...Just one thing...does the oil pressure light come on when you turn on the key before starting the engine? Just good to check that it actually does work.

No oil pressure light is a good thing, it means you had at least minimum oil pressure needed.

What would be nice is a oil level light!

Yeah, i'd say you're fine. Have you drained the oil to see how much was in it, or filled it up to see how low it was? It also could be getting slung out the front main seal, depending on if you see oil in the engine bay around the crank pulley. I had a nissan 240 with completely shot front main seal and it would lose between a half to a quart of oil in roughly 500 miles.

Also, to figure out where it's leaking exactly, you can get a can or two of brake cleaner, and spray all the oil to get it off and drive it a bit and check it again.

Oil pressure light is exactly that, it just monitors discharge pressure of the oil pump. As long as the pump is supplying sufficient pressure you are good to go, however at some point the leak would lower the level to below the suction of the pump, then you would get a warning as the pump would no longer be able to pump oil. As long as that light didn't come on your engine is fine (except for the leak).

I had a significant leak when my serpentine belt failed and shreds wrapped around the crank shaft and destroyed the main shaft seal. I caught it before it lost enough to lose suction on the oil pump.

If no oil light came on (assuming your bulb is functional) you should be just fine. That would indicate you at least had minimum oil pressure. You can actually run pretty damn low on oil and still be OK in some vehicles depending how low the pickup is in the sump... It seems to me that it has been leaking oil pretty bad for quite some time and its lucky that you caught it now before it did go almost dry. Looks like the oil pan gasket. Clean the shit out of it (spotless as you can) with a solvent or brake clean or something similar, fill it up with some oil and drive it around for a very short period, park it and get under there and see if you can confirm where the leak is coming from.
