Question for the people that see mud and snow and use 4wd often. Do you turn off traction and stability control all the way? I found it to be quite intrusive, especially in snow on hills while using 4wd. I had to turn it all off to make it up a snowy driveway in 4wd this past weekend. It cut power so much the truck stalled.

How do you like those tires? Also what was the hit to MPG? I've heard mix reviews, either people really like them, or people really hate them.

I absolutely love Firestone Destination AT tires, I have run them on several different vehicles over several years and I've always been impressed with both their on road and their light off-road capabilities. I can't really give you a MPG because I put them on before I'd even gone through the first tank of gas in the new truck, but historically with my other vehicles it was about a half-mile gallon to one mile a gallon lost. Not a big deal to have a way better tire. Plus it's a slightly larger tire, so if you actually do the math on it, your odometer is spinning slightly less and the calculated miles per gallon will actually be a little more than what you estimated.

Question to those who have upgraded from the steelies...were you able to re-use your tpms sensors? I'm looking to go to 17in 4runner TE wheels (part #42611-35540), and I'm not sure if I'll be able to re-use the tmps sensors. Thanks for any insight.

The consensus seems to be that they can be rotated 180 degrees and work but you may ruin one if you get a flat and need to let tire shops know before dismounting one. They need to loosen it and let it fall inward or will destroy it.

I spoke with the dealer about that and was told the steel wheels and aluminum wheels all use the same sensors.

I'm not sure that is correct. When I went from steel wheels to alloy, I had to buy new sensors. The sensors for steel wheels has a different part number for the 2016 Tacoma. Here is the chart.

I had to buy new sensors when switching to the 16+ OR wheels.

Just finished up my first couple mods on my SR today.

Installed a 3" bull bar on the front then put a stall mat in the bed. I had to cut around the wheel wells a little but some elbow grease and a fresh utility knife took care of that. The stall mat is nice because it is so much thicker than a traditional bed mat. Just waiting for the cold Ohio weather to turn so I can plasti dip the steelies. I want new rims and tires but need to save up a little more for those so plasti dip works in the meantime. Toolbox is ordered and should be here next week so I can clean out my back seat.

When I got the new sensors for my alloy wheels, I took them to my local tire dealer. He said he didn't have the programming tool for the 2016 Tacoma. He said his tool only worked on 2015 or earlier. I found out that the 2015 Camry has the same sensors as the 2016 Tacoma. I asked him to try to program the sensors as if the vehicle was a 2015 Camry. He did and it worked. Once installed, I did have to push the reset button and drive a few miles until the pressure reading appeared. It only cost me $60 to mount and balance and no charge for the programming of the sensors. I avoid the dealer as much as possible.

One thing to note is the sensors work off of battery power. To ensure a long battery life, there is a sleep mode. The sensors will turn off when the vehicle is stopped for a short period of time. They will turn on during driving a short distance. Here is a chart showing the sensor same part number for the 2016 Tacoma and the 2015 Camry.

4 ply. No reason to get heavier tires because I don't haul heavy loads.

Where in Ohio? I lived there all my life (Mt Gilead and Uhrichsville) until we moved to Cali because we were sick of winter....about 9 months ago!

Any of my AC peeps remove the rear headrests? I never use the back seat for humans, and they were really fucking annoying. Felt like they occupied a large amount of space.

Easy to do, 3 10mm bolts under the fascia covers, pop the whole rear cover up and forward, 4 12mm bolts on each headrest, pop the cover back into the tabs, reinstall bolts and fascia covers. 20 minutes.
