So I've read a bit about the Toyota Tick. It seems that most people have it in the low RPM range when driving. I happen to have a tick when I'm at idle. I have a AT and the tick is only when I'm in gear. If i move the trans into neutral or park, the tick goes away. Is this the same tick or a different one? Should I take my truck in?

Might be a different "tick" if it's related to the transmission. The one that is most commonly referred to, is very quiet and almost sounds like a lifter tapping in the engine. IDK.

This is not a quiet tick and is only in gear. I have the extended warranty so I will take it in and see what they say. I was hoping someone else had the same issue before.

Well I know mine ticks when in neutral but not sure when I am in gear. Wait until Chris4x4 chimes in before you head to the stealership. I was worried about the tick to, but was told that it was completely normal on our trucks.

Its really hard to diagnose ticks online. If it happens only in gear, does it go away when the truck moves?

    Chris,

I can't really tell if it goes away, but I'm assuming it does. I have the TRD exhaust so I don't hear much from the engine when I'm driving.

    Chris,

When I take my foot off the brake and let the engine just pull the truck, the ticking/rattling goes away. Any ideas? I'll see if i can get a video or sound clip of it. Or at the next meet and greet I can have you take a look. I'm usually really good with mechanical things but for the life of me I can't figure this one out.

    Chris,

Thanks for the help again on Saturday, and it was good to meet you. I felt like such an idiot after I left...lol. I can't believe it was just the TRD CAI box that was hitting something. I was looking at the trans and under the truck the whole time. Again thanks and let me know if you ever need anything!

My K&N intake does the same thing with the ticking in gear and all. drove me crazy, but it made me feel dumb thinking there was a big problem with my truck :D

I felt REALLY dumb! Took chris4x4 all of about 5 min to figure it out. I had probably spend at least 2 hours under the truck in the past 2 weeks trying to figure out what it was.

    Thanks again Chris!
