Edit: not that I've helped matters.

So it is interesting that ARB is in the process of changing the Dakar setup a bit. It is mostly just isolator pieces between all the leaf tips and at the center pin (liners) as shown here by another member, who got these through some undisclosed manner. I don't care about the isolator business, but I find it interesting they seem to be abandoning the pre-installed front eye rubber bushing and are supplying a set of their SB108 bushings, which to this point I've only seen used for the shackle end and purchased separately. I had been thinking about preemptively swapping out that bushing for urethane before install, knowing that it is inevitable that the rubber will begin failing and deforming over time (as Crom showed and did during his refurb). I may as well do this too, since ARB deems it a direct fit application.

I saw that too. I think it's great ARB is improving their Dakar pack. All the people complaining about squeaks, it finally worked. For sure hammer out the rubber bushing. :) The main issue I saw was that it will move laterally in the eye.

    Question for you @scocar

Where does King measure their shocks from? Thanks.

From the mounting point to the mounting point, which on our stem-top shocks is between the top two bushings. In other words, underneath the plate of our upper mounts.

This is what caught me off guard. I was running numbers in a discussion with jberry because he's so familiar with them, and that is the one thing he told me to double check, because I was basing measurements off your Bilsteins. I did double-check with Micach at DSM, and he confirmed the between-bushing measurement for Kings. That's why I started badgering you for details several weeks back :D

Oh wow. I see... That's worse than I thought, even with the longer 1.25" shaft that DSM provides for Dakar owners when ordering, IMO, it may be leaving spring travel on the table. Going custom like you did makes a lot of sense now. Only way to know for sure is to measure.

    Thanks for elaborating!

I think I have those same bushings at least on one end of my Dakars.

Well I'm still waiting to see what King comes back with for exact numbers. I was asking for 17/28. That includes a .5 safety margin on compression. Last week Micah called me to clarify again, and I clarified that I included that margin, and King can adjust that as they see fit. Still waiting to hear back on that to verify what they can put together to make that happen. I will sacrifice compression to make the droop if necessary. I can also shim up or extend the bumpstops if necessary.

The location of those outlet tubes to the resis at the top really limit the amount of piston tube space for compression. I can see why the 2.0 12s with relocate are a hit, but I'd like to avoid that.

Edit: and yeah, the DSM King "Dakars" do leave a shit ton of Dakar droop on the table. Which makes me smirk at their so-called Dakar King. "No one has had a problem with them" they said. I'm sure that is true, because most people don't even understand what they are dealing with. They just buy it. That's how I began my discussion with Micah to find out exactly what numbers those shocks provided. Without a locker (yet), no bueno. Hence my PITA endeavor. The thought of a 2.5 rather than a 2.0 (12-inch, etc.) back there is very enticing for me, however, when I consider my full planned loading and towing.

Did you calculate the parts shelf droop with all that excess weight?

I am unconcerned. My industrial pallet racks will be arriving soon. The installation will require passing seismic code inspection, however.

Well dang, I guess this is the end of the build for awhile. I saw tracking as "delivered" so I figured I'd see if there was any progress via the webcam. (Dude, if you survived change your webcams from the default password - I mean seriously, make it a little bit of a challenge at least). Anyway, happened a few minutes ago. Should have put more of it on the truck before the stacks got so high:
