I have a 95 Tacoma 3.4. I thought the fuel pump went out so I replaced it, but before putting the tank back in I plugged the pump in to test that it worked and it didn't.I figured I had a broken power wire and ran a wire from battery to a 20 amp fuse and 20 amp toggle switch until I could afford to get it in. The truck will run for awhile or just a few seconds and die then restart with power to everything. I started messing with it again and checked the relay and switched it with a different one and it still dies and then starts back up most of the time. I also have power back to the original power wire to the pump while running tell it dies.

Nothing personal, just hard to read/understand fully without punctuation.

So your saying the full pump shuts off and it dies correct? You know for sure the pump loses power and shuts off?

I would be checking cam and crank position sensors.

Confirm the fuel pump loses power when this happens.

Without a way to hook up to the ECM and read OBD2 live data i'm running out of ideas.

When you say anything are you referring to no codes? Or no communication with computer. Need to be able to monitor realtime data.

Sounds like a fuel pump relay issue to me. The relay heats up....fails.

Could be. I asked him to confirm its losing power. Wait and see what he finds.

Sounds like there are other issues but i just wanted to let you know that our fuel pumps wont come on till the engine starts to crank over, then it will fire up when the truck begins to fire. So when you tested it at first before reinstalling the pump and tank you wouldnt have got it to run/pump with the key on. Thats the reason you get power back to the original power wire while the engine is running!! Then it cuts power to that wire when the engine dies. Ditch the wire and switch setup you rigged up and plug the pump in how its meant to and id bet the pump will function as intended? Depending how you have the pump connected it may just have an issue with the communication between it and the truck. Maybe not but definitely the reason your original power wire is doing what its doing is because thats how the system works! No pumpage till the engine fires!! The system is posed to hold pressure for starting then after that the pump will kick on for continued running!

I did rewire it to original and thats what it is doing. Start up run a couple min then die and after a couple min can restart and run a couple min and then die.
