    I have (carry) an emergency LED plugin light. Much better than a flashlight for an emergency. Also plug in a radio at the beach.

    You do realize the truck has to be running to operate the inverter?..... yet you plug your block heater in? :confused:

    Charging off of 12v is a lot more efficient however some camera battery chargers* and most laptops require more than 12v (usually not much though, I know two of mine are 19v). I would never recommend using an inverter without the vehicle running unless you are running it off of a deep cycle house battery that is isolated from the starting battery.

    *Most factory chargers are wall chargers; switching to something like Wasabi brand batteries gets you higher mAh batteries as well as a 12v/120v charger.

    I read somewhere here from someone.

    Kinda nice to have a hotmeal ready after sleep set-up

    Barring some rewiring of your 2010 DCLB to have the inverter on with the ignition key off--or your leaving the key in the ON position overnight--I suspect there is a great big chunk of "placebo effect" in what you report.

    I just checked my dead stock '09 DCSB:
    • with the key in the LOCK (off) position the AC inverter cannot be enabled its output is dead;
    • with the key in the ACC position the AC inverter cannot be enabled its output is dead;
    • with the key in the ON position, engine off (KOEO), the AC inverter can be enabled, its output is live and oddly both the 100 and 400 W indicators are illuminated;
    Further testing will be needed to determine the AC inverter's actual output capacity in KOEO status--I will do this as time permits...

    To quote my own post which was tongue in cheek.

    There is some truth to what I said. But honestly balls up and convert your cab to USB-C. And your gear. Yeah I used to pin out mainframes for memory and remember when a 10 mb. spinning disk was 6 foot in diameter made out of cast iron and weighed close to a ton. You have come a long ways baby... LOL afraid many do not remember that commercial in the 70's.

    If you need to start your rig in cold weather or run electronics without that receptacle thingie on a tree, which I never have been able to find, may I suggest an Antigravity XP-10? Taste good and last long time, and only cost a few Peso's in PI, or the US for that matter. Do it right.

    My favorite 8 track, tied with Zep II and IV and The Wall however was this.

    Shit did I just say 8 Track?!

    Unfortunately Quadrophenia by the Who didn't make the market like they thought it would. Didn't care all the Krack 'O speakers in my FJ55 didn't either. Driven by the state of the art head set LOL.

    I used mine for a floodlight in the neighbors barn lot while hunting skunks at night.

    This is a true comment and I actually got one that night. It was cool out so sitting for a while with the engine idling and the heat on worked out well. I could have just used the head lights but I shoot out of the driver's side window.

    Responding to OP's question about an aftermarket replacement...I presume you mean to upgrade the power output...I havent found one that would drop in; but one would have to include a wire gauge upgrade as these inverters require lots of power. The 400-watt converter is for light duty demands. I would have ponied up $$ for a 1500 watt converter; recommended gauge is 3/0 for 6-10 feet.

    I used 4/0 welding wire run from the +battery post, through a 300 amp marine power switch (cheap), to the 750W inverter under my seat. Also includes a 60 amp inline fuse. Grounded to seat bolt. Has worked great so far.

    How long do you leave the key on with the engine off to heat the block?

    I've never heard of anyone doing this, so I'm curious.

    Well i have to idle the truck to get the full 400w to run the block heater which in turn keeps the engine good to go. Also can anyone tell me why in only getting 3 MPG?

    You can plug in an extension cord, but shouldn't plug anything into the extension cord.

    That's about the extent of the outlet's use
