Yeah that's what I thought. I was looking on Firestones website and it said to never to go offroad with them because of the weaker side walls. I thought that was kind of funny considering it's a AT tire.

Well, "offroad" means different things to different people, obviously. I don't know that I'd be trying to do super aggressive trail work, with risk of sidewall punctures, with any 4 ply tires. But... I have done some pretty significant stuff with them including trails in the Rockies and at Moab. I think it basically comes down to understanding the realities of your driving situation. You could run 10 ply mud tires and never worry about puncturing them, but you'd also be hating life on the freeway and getting 5 mpg less with them.

The Destinations are perfect for the reality of the driving I do: I drive to work, I run errands, I live on a dirt lane, I slide around on forest service gravel roads, I explore abandoned dirt roads, I occasionally venture onto easier off road trails (though some people who tag along seem to think I am Ivan Stewart, it's all perspective, I guess). The tires are in line with the off road prowess of the truck: no lift, no locker. They work in the real world, but don't wear the bro stamp.

And now it's photo proof time!

4 ply Firestone Destination ATs on my old Xterra in Moab, UT:

4 ply Destination ATs on my old Xterra on top of Imogene Pass, CO:

My old 4Runner with 4 ply Destination ATs on top of Burnt Knob, on the Macgruder Corridor, ID (anyone who has gone up the steep and rocky trail to Burnt Knob will tell you it's no joke...)

My old 4Runner with 4 ply Destination ATs on (and almost off of!!!) NF 15N02 in the Trinity Mountains, CA

My old 4Runner with 4 ply Destinations on a muddy, rutted, steep power line trail near Danville, Ohio

I got about a million more pics but this is an SR thread... and I got none with my new truck :(

Regardless, I have been quite pleased with the overall performance of the Destination ATs. I post my thoughts because tires like the Destination often get drowned out in the pagan-esque bro chanting of "BFG, BFG, BFG!"... so guys who want a legitimate tire that does everything well end up getting more tire than they need because they can't siphon through the bullshit. Even as I write this, there's a thread on the first page of '3rd gen' about "which is better, E rated Duratrac or E rated KO2?"... I literally live in the mountains of an area called "The Lost Coast" because it's so rugged they can't put any state paved 2 lane in here due to mountains and land movement; if anyone could claim a need to have a legit "off road" tire for day to day use it's someone who lives out here... and I'm rocking the Destinations ATs. And: Full disclosure - I have a set of E rated BFG KO2s in my garage. I took them off because they weren't as good for the real world as the Destination ATs.

Those 4 ply Destinations on my Xterra got me from Ohio to the Pacific and back on a a ton of high speed freeway, ass-hauling dirt roads, and low speed "light" off road trails like Hurrah Pass and Chicken Corners. I never aired up or down, I just drove. On my 4R, they got me around rural Ohio like a boss, cut through river crossings, chewed up steep roads abandoned 30 years ago, crossed the country at 90 mph when we moved to California, then got me around on the sandy beaches and rugged single lane rocky mountain roads of the Pac northwest all at 35 PSI. I expect they will perform just as brilliantly on my SR.

That is exactly what I wanted to know, thank you. And I agree that good realistic tires do get overlooked on this forum and that is why I inquired about the Destinations in the first place. I appreciate your feedback and I think I'm sold on these tires now.

Good call on getting out of winter! Although it has been pretty mild here so far which is a nice change of pace for Ohio winters. I'm in Ashland. It's a smaller town about halfway between Cleveland and Columbus. Probably 45 minutes north of Mt. Gilead.

Well after talking to the dealer earlier they said you can't get alloy wheels on the 2017 SR anymore, not even as a package. A little disappointed to say the least.

I'd see what another dealer has to say. That'd mean the alloy wheels used on the 2016 are a single year production wheel which makes no sense. They designed them for the SR and only used them on the SR Seems like a lot of cost for only one year of use.

They come on the sr5 now as an option besides the steel wheels or the appearance package wheels.

I paid $31,918 out the door said and done. Mine came with OEM aluminum wheels, short bed, double cab, automatic, V6, 4x4 appearance package. You need to negotiate better next time!

I kinda like the ability to presoak the windshield w/o having it automatically wipe. I'm gonna run my non-intermittent wipers as is for a year and see if it bugs me enough to change it.

The part that sucks most is in a light rain. No intermittent function blows. You have to keep hitting the wiper every 30 seconds.

I know. Thing is my old truck had 14 billionty clicks for the intermittent speed and I still found myself using the single wipe push on the stalk more than the intermittent function. Maybe I'm just weird. :)
