Hood latch release isn't popping hood up?

As the title states, when I use my hood latch release from inside the latch will release, but it doesn't pop up as you'd expect. To get the hood to pop up, you still need to put your hands between the hood and head lamps, pull it up, and then use the hood latch to open the hood.

I'm not 100% sure how the popping mechanism works on this truck, I'll have to investigate a bit once the weather warms up. On my 2013, I'd have the same issue, but lightly tapping on the hood with a closed fist would eventually make it pop up.

A minor annoyance, and hardly worth going to the dealer or creating much of a to-do, but has anyone else had this issue and rectified it?

 

Considering m how much you paid for your truck, it'd be worth a trip to the dealership to me. I expect everything to work flawlessly on a new vehicle.

 

You have very unrealistic expectations, then.

 

No? It's called quality control. If something is wrong with my vehicle, I expect the dealership to take care of the issue. Especially over something mechanical like a hood latch. It doesn't always work in your favor, but they should treat you to your satisfaction.

 

Expecting no issues (flawless as you put it) is unrealistic. That wording is different than what you just posted

No, its unrealistic that things are 100% perfect out of the box or off the line, every single time.

 

Is your truck always parked outside? Maybe the hood latch mechanism is iced up.

 

I noticed this as well. Took me a while to figure it out. As the computer nerds say "it wasn't intuitive".

 

It is, but I've noticed it prior to the cold weather. My '13 had the same issue. I'll have to check out where the cable goes into the latch and spring assembly and hit it with some white lithium grease.

Yeah. I typically check my oil at every fill-up and as I was getting gas today and I popped the hood I made a mental note to check it out on here since I haven't recalled seeing a similar question posed.

Also, is it something different everytime you open the hood, or is it opening the same as the first time you opened it up?

It's been like this for awhile now, but since it's done it before on my old truck, I just more or less dismissed it. It's hardly worth something wasting time at the dealer for, but I was hoping I'd read a "oh, I did X to fix it".

 

At least you didn't say Ferrari. Enzo's belief was that he sold engines not cars, the car just came with it as a bonus.

 

Might need some grease under there on the hood latch mechanism. Try some sil-glide or something but ultimately take it to the dealer.

While a vehicle is under warranty I take it to them for everything, thats why you have it.

 

If you buy a new refrigerator would you expect it to keep your food cold?

With your analogy, yes i'd expect it to keep things cold. The equvilent of it would be expecting the truck to be able to drive you places. Definitely not the same as a sticky latch

 

I would expect very few to ever get past quality control and if it would have an issue l would expect it to be fixed.

 

Did you just skip over what I quoted and the words used in the dudes post such as "expecting flawless"? You JUST said very few would get past QC, which is reasonable, but expecting zero flaws (flawless) is unrealistic, which is what I quoted. Whats the disconnect here?

 

When you pull the latch.. are you then able to lightly lift up on the hood and open it?

 

Ultimately, I may mention it at my next appointment, however, I've been on a streak lately when I've brought vehicles to the dealer for issues, I've ended up with things I need to either fix, clean or adjust myself after the fact. If I can find a quick fix of my own, I'd rather do that. For example, I've got the HVAC knob issue that isn't uncommon. I mentioned it at my 5K service and they ultimately said to make an appointment to come back to have it repaired, which is fine. However, when I got the truck back, the rubber retainer / trim piece I added to the MT shift boot to make my TRD knob work was all out of place and whatnot. So I had to take some time to repair that myself. I envision getting some new and exciting scratches having the repair done so I'm trying to avoid that, if it at all possible on something that doesn't require new pieces, just labor.

No, that's where the issue is. I pull the latch and nothing happens to the hood...it doesn't pop as expected. Pulling the handle in the cab does release the hood latch assembly allowing the hood to open, but the pop-up that you expect to have happen, doesn't. My assumption is that something needs to be reset or lubricated, and I was hoping someone on here has dealt with that.
