I think it's a moot point anyways no way they're going to crack into the rear end and find out you change the gear ratio. Unless you tell them, they'll never know.

I think the truck would stay in 6th better with 4.30's and not kill your mpg. And probably wouldn't never go to 4th.

Couldn't you use the 4.3s from the 2.7 AT if you have the smaller rear?

Drive mine in S5 when it's real hilly or windy and it's a different truck. S5 is pretty much the same gearing as the gen2.

Pretty much what I was thinking. Unless they install it and see it in the service records, they are going to see a stock diff, tranny, and front diff, and will end up swapping parts under warranty, not cracking them open just to count splines. They would have an easier time just blaming your tires.

Thats why I always keep stock parts (within reason). Very easy just to throw the stock wheels/tires on before you go.

Yeah Ive just seen Toyota try to weasel out of too many warranty issues to take the risk with some of these things that's why I'm always cautious about it

Maybe for you but not everyone has that kind of storage space and I don't want to have a pile of junk on the side of my house with a tarp over it

I think they would be perfect for stock tires never mind up one size. I've read the entire 4.88 thread, but I don't see anyone running stock tires, they are all running bigger rubber. I have no interest in anything bigger then 265/75/16, and am very happy to stay with stock size.

I'd be very tempted to install a set of takeoffs. Not sure what new ones would run. I do agree, it could pooch your warranty. I think if you bought new ones and had them installed by same dealer, they would warrant any issues.

The worst of it is, we would be paying to fix a problem not created by us, when we just bought the new truck. That's what bothers me the most.

I agree 100% but Toyota isn't going to recall all the automatics and install new gears that's a fact. It's either do it yourself and take the 2k hit or trade it for something else and take a 5k hit.

on the one hand i would like to agree... $40k+ and it should be pretty close to perfect.

on the other hand i have never had a vehicle that suited me right off the lot. i have never owned that didn't end up getting the crap modified out of it.

I've seen athe least one person in the 4.88 gear thread with a MT swap to 4.88. If it were me, I'd PM him and see if he'd sell the stock 4.30 to you.

I considered the 4.3 since they were factory. I'll be going 4.88 instead and will be doing it on stock tires and suspension until I upgrade those later.
