I have a 2011 Tacoma with a backup camera in the mirror. I just bought a 7" Kenwood and want to use it for my backup display. The installer said that the OEM camera provides a crummy picture on the 7" display. They don't sell backup cameras so I need to find a source for a better quality camera. I just want to replace the existing camera not put a new one somewhere else.

All the sources I have found so far only offer complete kits with display and wiring. Anyone know where I can just get the camera?

How about Toyota? I have a 2015 Tacoma with backup camera that displays on the head unit and it has a good picture. Maybe you could price a camera for a later year Tacoma from your dealer.

Want to add a backup camera, searched and this one popped up! Is there one that works in stock tailgate handle? It looks like I may need to upgrade my stereo so I don't have to have another monitor for the camera. What is everyone doing here for backup camera? This is for 2008 DC.

I used this on my Kenwood DDX9702S: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013OLWDW4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Removable gridlines, great picture quality, and I have it wired to ignition so it turns on once the motor is running- no delay when I start the truck and out it in reverse. Highly recommend this one!

Why can't you use your OEM camera??? Sounds like BS, trying to get more money out of you, is how I see it.

I have one of these and for me its too low, there is a hump just as I am getting to my driveway that I cant see down over until the rear wheels actually get over the hump. I am going to convert to the bed handle type.

Check out Esky, I was going to do this too, until I didn't, and after much research I had decided on purchasing one of theirs. Seems to be balance of decent quality with good price.

indeed, the image quality is very good on this camera, very clear and crisp but its just the positioning of it for me to see down over that hump into the driveway is too low until the rear wheels actually start down thus lowering the camera to the point where I can actually see the driveway.

Ohhh I see what you mean, yeah that's annoying. I think they make a wide-angle version if I remember correctly? I wonder if that would help at all if you were to do it all over again?

hard to explain... I need to widen my vocabulary or something... its like trying to see the bottom of the grand canyon... its just not possible until you walk up close enough to see over the edge... climbing up on a ladder might help a little though... ;)

Thanks for info on camera. Would like a tailgate camera so it looks stock and so it is up higher. On my truck had a license plate camera and it was too low.
