My Audio Install w/pics!

If you are using the crossovers from the component sets you do not need another HP in the system for the tweeters. Turn ALL crossovers on your amp OFF. If the tweeters are loud or overly harsh you can try the -3db setting to tame them down a bit.

The HP on your headunit shouldn't affect the tweeters at all since you have a passive crossover wired in. Are you sure the distortion is coming from the tweeters?

I think the best thing to do in terms of sound quality in this situation would be to use your 9887 to go with active crossovers instead of the passive ones that come with the components.

Only problem is you won't be amplifying the rear speakers anymore since you need a 4ch to run the active setup, using each channel to power each midbass and tweeter up front, but trust me, if done correctly it will sound much better than trying to tune around the passive Image dynamics crossovers, and you will get cleaner/louder sound because the passive crossovers are just eating watts, and going active will allow more power to get to each speaker.

I have been thinking going active since I am using the 9887 HU. I have been on DIYmobileaudio.com and have learned a lot, nice site! Only issue now is tearing my truck apart and rewiring everything. Wouldn't be a big deal, just need to find the time.

 

active, active, active. i too just got my 9887 installed. waiting on the box, sub and wiring. i was all set til i got on diymobileaudio.com and then had to sell everything and rebuy components. damn these forums!!!

 

While a good, well tuned, active system would obviously sound the best, I think he should stick with the passive crossovers for now and just use the headunit to separate the sub and speaker frequencies. He should tune what he has correctly FIRST before changing anything. If he tunes it right and he loves it then he wouldn't have wasted a ton of time modifying stuff.

And no offense to ilovetacos, but if he's having trouble tuning this system what makes you think he could tune an active system? It's tough it really is.

 

ilovetacos....try turning your gains down a little bit on all the channels. When you turn the volume up to a "loud" volume for you what number are you at on the headunit?

 

were you ever able to refit the plastic panel on the back of the seat back with out the rubbing/vibrations? I want to build a custom install like this, but i need those panels in place for shuttling my dog around.

 

Maybe try some thin closed cell foam on the parts that rub/buzz?

 

Between 20-22. I am going to adjust them down too. I think this is another reason I am getting "harshness" from the speakers.

Yes, but I cut a half circle into the plastic panel perfectly round to the sub when I have the seats up. I'll take some pics of it later. I have no buzzing or vibrations since I did this.

Interesting...was the sub actually hitting the back of the seat? Since ********* pushes the ID speakers so much, I would think they would have taken it's excursion into account.

 

No, the sub was not hitting the back of the seat when the seats were up. Only when I had the seat all the way down it would rub against the sub. I'll take a few pics in a minute.

Thanks! I did a little car audio here and there but never a full system. I did a ton of research online and also had my brother on the phone to help me when needed.

 

I wish I would have done my own. I think I would have learned a lot.
