    4th gen with V8 had a 7000lb tow rating, how well they handled that i do not know. though i suspect 7000b was pushing the envelope a bit.

    5th gen was likely rated at 5000lb due to its higher overall curb weight (limited 4wd) and higher overall GVWR of 6300b, a bigger ride hauls more crap, and people in general like to haul more crap.

    Thank you for the info, was hoping they were maybe by some miracle were going to have a little more capacity. Looks like everything in the Yota lineup in the smaller size (Tacoma, FJ, Runner) is 5000 or under.

    I drove a Tundra for a few days last summer, it was physically larger in the outside dimensions, maybe a little more room in the drivers seat, door frame was still made for little Asian guys.
    I'll stick with the Tacoma

    you're getting into full size territory with car trailer.

    you know nothing short of a Cummins with compound turbos, programmer and 'pane fogger will be enough for your standard dual axle tag open center. and at that you're approaching Class 8 truck territory....
