Need remote start install help

I bought the Audiovoxx remote start off of Ebay: http://m.ebay.com/itm/182211213521 and have it all hooked up and working, but I cannot figure out the parking lights. There is a white wire from the unit that is supposed to connect to the dark green wire on the truck. I tried it and it blows the fuse for the parking lights. Am I connected to the wrong wire? Do I need a 15 or 20 amp fuse instead of the stock? I just want to button it up and be done but this one detail has got me stumped. I watched the YouTube video BTW.

 

make sure with a test light that the wire is the proper one . sounds like you have the power to ground side

See attached for all the connections for your truck. The remote start should be going to a bypass (

DBALL2, ADS-ALCA), then the wiring going from there to the connections on the ignition and others. Hope it helps.

 

I had to button it up because I have to get back north to work tomorrow. Everything works just fine but I don't have the white wire that is supposed to be for the parking lights connected to anything. I tried the green wire at the switch and got nothing. The green wire at the fuse box just pops the parking light fuse. I even tried the light green wire at the switch and that turns out to be the right turn signal.

 

I have the same unit and installed it just recently.


The green wire?.... take a pic of the wire and connector you're talking about. Where in the truck are you taking the green wire for the connection?

 

The green wire (there are 2 of them... light and dark green) is in the connector under the steering column. take the lower cover off of the column and tap into the DARK GREEN wire, not the light green one..... I made the same error too.

The wires are a small ga. wire BTW.

 

I did tap the dark green wire under the column (under the turn signal/light stalk) first and nothing happened. Then I tried the light green one and the right turn signal came on when I started the truck.

I watched that YouTube video and the guy mentions a dark green wire at the fuse box (left side, like 2nd connector down if I remember correctly) and that just blew the 10 amp fuse for the parking lights.

The mystery to me is that without that white wire connected, everything seems to work just fine. When I use the auto start, the lights all come on as long as it is running.

I won't be able to mess with it until next weekend now that I'm 3 hours from my garage, but I'm kinda thinking of leaving it as is unless someone knows what that white wire is supposed to do.

 

I also wanted to throw out there for anyone looking into a starter that this particular unit is not plug and play. The directions are pretty clear but there was a whole lot of wire splicing involved. I went slow and soldered all my connections. Was not and easy job by any means. Some t-taps (not included in kit) would have made it much faster, but I like my wiring connections to be solid. I was very methodical and careful. Took me about 4 hrs to do.

 

I think you might have the remote start sending the wrong polarity to the parking light wire. Here's a page from the manual for your remote start:



Notice the difference in instructions for "positive switching parking lights" and "negative switching parking lights". Which way did you do it? Can't remember if our trucks have positive or negative switching, but I remember that I made this mistake and was also blowing fuses until I figured out my error. On the Viper units, you just have to change the position of the fuse inside the unit. But obviously you'll need to follow the instructions for your own unit.

 

Hmmmmmm...? Not quite the same as my instructions. Mine say the white wire is PARKING LIGHTS (-) and is connected to the green wire below the headlight switch. There is no other "parking light" wire listed.

I have to go to bed but I think you should test your green wire from the truck with a multimeter, with the ignition on and headlights turned on, to determine if it is positive or negative. I am 75% sure you will find that it is positive. If you're connecting a wire from the RS to it that is, according to your instructions, negative, you will pop the fuse. I'll try to remember to check back in here tomorrow.

The Ebay ad shows the 5054 in the picture but the model # for some reason says 5153 in the description.

The directions say to connect the WHITE wire from the unit to the DARK GREEN wire (3rd from left) in this bundle. I did that and nothing happened (at least I didn't notice anything).

I'm kind of wondering if it is necessary. If I'm reading things right, the WHITE wire just makes the driving lights flash to confirm it got the signal and is going to start. It already chirps the horn so I know it got the signal. And once it starts, all the lights come on so I can see it started. Anyone see a problem with me just leaving it disconnected? Seems to function fine. I just don't want anything to fritz out because it isn't getting a signal it thinks it should get or something.

 

I don't see how your parking lights can work without the white wire connected.

Once the truck is remotely started, do the paring lights come on in a few moments AFTER the truck has been started?

Parking lights flash to indicate it's received a signal, then shut off. Once started, they stay on the entire time for the programmed runtime.

 

Right now (without the white wire connected) when I push the start button twice the horn honks once, there is a 5 second delay, the truck starts, then all the lights come on as it sits and runs (if I left the light switch on when I turned the truck off last). If I leave the switch to DRL, the DRLs come on after it starts, etc. I think the only part I'm missing is the visual flash of the parking lights confirming it got the signal.

 

All you explained there is how its supposed to work. The white R/S wire is only controlling the parking lights, which you haven't connected yet.

You say all the lights flash before it starts running.... including the parking/ tail lights? My guess is that one or both of the ignition wires in the truck is working the DRLs, that's ok though.


I don't have control of my DRLs (maybe I do, I dunno ). When My truck remotely starts, ALL the lights (except the headlights) flash.... Including the parking tail lights.

No lights flash at all when I hit the start button. The horn honks. Truck starts. Then all the lights turn on and stay on (if I've left the light switch on previously).

Yes. Once the truck starts, all lights are on as if it is ready to go. However, if I turn the light switch off when I leave the truck the night before, none of the lights come on at all when it auto starts.

 

All the lights light up when running.... including tail?

You need that white wire in play to get the visual confirmation.
