Every union fat cat takes and takes without giving. Their loyalty is to the politicians. Our dues are pretty high (compared to my last union) and we still don't get overtime if we're forced on doubles nor time and a half on holidays that we work while the rest of our colleagues in the courts have off.

 

Well ain't that some bullshit.

 

Does the Fort FD respond outside the Army grounds? My sister is across the street from the fort and seems to be far from county FD...

 

yeah, im pretty sure they spend more time responding to off base stuff than anything else, Meade is pretty small. the BWI Airport fire department also does the same thing, they send truck out to the surrounding area as well as serving the airport. IIRC we had 4 different departments here last night, and the cops are still here as i type this.

I also havent been able to sleep and have to go to work in 7 hours

 

Currently at work, sitting in the truck watching it downpour. Watching all that salt the DOT just laid down go bye bye. Should lead to a fun morning -me working late- and probably camping out on a couch somewhere around campus in the morning. Seriously fuck ice. Ain't worth wrecking my '16 trying to get home.

 

Warmed up a few days ago, enough to melt most anything close to roadways. Low last night was -1 so it's a skating rink anywhere you go. Snow is one thing but ice definitely sucks. Been snowing on/off all day today so going to work is going to be less than thrilling. Hope everyone is staying safe out there, catch ya tonight.

 

What union are you with? Mine gives a total of 7% annually between cost of living increases and pay step increases.

OPEIU, there was talk of switching us to another one, which I was heavily in favor of. I lost my 5 year bonus retirement benefit from switching jobs about 3 years ago. I could've "retired" from my last job at 42 after 20 rough years behind the walls. We get yearly step raises on our hire date Anniversary and 1.5% in January & July. I'm not complaining because something is better than nothing but we're a 24/7 critical response operation in a clerical union.

 

Agreed, better than most, especially in "right to work" states. Never was a big fan of unions until I got hired into the one I'm in now. 0 complaints with AFSCME.

 

We're in another inversion so it's supposed to warm up in a couple days, warm enough to snow more I guess lol. The freezing fog/icy conditions suck..I'd take 25 and snowing all day over this.
