i feed my dogs victor dog food. for the price you cant beat it its grain free and theyre turds are solid and dark. we went through like 3-4 brands expensive, $65 for 25# bags, till we found it. one of my girls has itchy allergic reactions to gluten, wheat, grains. it also tapered off their hunting for cat turds. theyll still find a fishy crap treat every now and then, but wont dig for them nearly as much.

Thanks for rescuing your pups. You can get them used to their crate. Feed them in there. Give them a treat when they go in. At first, treat as soon as they go in. Gradually increase the time they are inside. If they like to retrieve, throw the toy in and let them get it. You don't have to ever leave them in the crate, but it will help them out if they ever have to be kenneled - spend the night @ the vet or for traveling.

My avatar pup hated her crate and she eventually came to love it - took awhile, but she overcame her hate.

Kai, my Belgian Malinois, genuinely enjoys riding in the bed. Now if I could only keep her claws off the paint...

Look for a product called "helicopter tape." It's a film used on the leading edges of rotors to protect them from debris damage. You can get it in multiple thicknesses and it's easy to apply and best of all, it's clear.

I have to say I can't stand to see dogs in beds of trucks that aren't secured. We saw a dog fly out of bed of truck in an intersection due to not being secured. We see a lot of it here in the country. I've never had my dog in back. Always in cab with me.

We always had our hound in a large padded kennel crate not for his safety but for everyone else's. Beau would try to jump into other cars to say hi. Had to put a stop to THAT!

ALWAYS keep our dog on a short tether while the vehicle is moving. The tether is attached along the center of the vehicle, so she can only peak her head slightly outboard. Anything otherwise is unsafe to the dog and/or other drivers.

I wanted to go grain free also. Ended up with some Canidae brand that was on sale...still paid something like $56 for 40 lbs. I saw Walmart sells a grain-free food called Pure Balance that was about $35 for 30 lbs or so. Anyone try this food? Any thoughts on it?
