I bet I could hook you up with some Mobile 1 0W20 for about $20/quart if you like... :D

When I did my initial change at 1600 mi I just picked up oil at the nearby dealer. $6.51/qt if I remember correctly. About the same cost as Mobil 1 0W20 from Wally world without a special trip (I was picking up something else at the parts counter). Filter was about $5.

Not too bad a price, actually the best I've gotten for a quart of Mobil 1 , hahahaha....jk..... , I have never heard anything bad about Mobil1 , the company I work for uses all Mobil products, 15w40 oil, gear oil, trans oil, hydraulic oil, grease, gear lube, etc...etc... and they've been in business for over 70 years, must be good, but I prefer Amsoil, its what I use....now if I could find Pennzoil Ultra, I'd use that...but that shit is like bigfoot, I have never seen it yet around the Pittsburgh area yet.

This is not a recommendation because the truck in question was a coal truck but my F-250 went 250k miles and I didn't change the oil for 2 years, I sold it and it's still going strong. So your point is moot.

Are you sure it's not full synthetic?

Just glanced at the leftover partial bottle downstairs and it claims "Synthetic" but doesn't say either full or semi.

I did note that on the back / bottom it claims it's distributed by Toyota for ExxonMobile. Do they have a semi-synth 0W20? When I looked at Mobil1 it seemed their 0W20 was all full synthetic.

For what it's worth all my old Toyota sedans had 7500 mile intervals on early 90s spec dino oil which is inferior to what we have now, with dirtier running engines (more blow by when cold). My 93 Corolla is now on this schedule because I drive it a ton but too early to tell anything from it. I agree that if people are concerned they should go to Blackstone with a sample.

Man, you made me miss my 99 cavalier. Had to junk it due too many nonengine related mechanical failures. Changed my own oil every 3k and that engine ran smooth through 190k. I used mobile one synthetic from the get go. Now I use what ever synthetic oil is on sale for the taco at the recommended miles intervals (5K). It doesn't seem to make a diffeeence in performance on the taco as much as it did the cavalier.

This is what the stickers in the engine bays of 1980's Toyotas looked like (this is from a 1986 Supra, my 1986 Corolla has a similar sticker), long before any synthetics, long before the much tighter tolerances and lower blowby emissions...

This is not new, and they certainly weren't offering free service/oil changes back then like they are now.
