Remote Start Full kit?

Do I need anything other than this if I have a 2002 TRD OR without factory key fob? I just am tired of keying in.

 

Did it come with power locks? I'm doing a conversion from manual locks to powered locks myself and I didn't wire up the lock ECU or the body ECU so I'm creating my own custom wiring harness for a Viper to control the locks themselves instead of going through the factory electronics. I'd have to swap the entire truck's wiring harness and ECU if I wanted the power doors and locks to operate the way it originally did.

 

Just so you know those don't come with install instructions. You have to get It installed at an authorized dealer or bribe an authorized dealer to give you the instructions.

 

You can find them on Google, think there's even a couple on here.

 

Good luck I tried really hard to find them. You can find the user manuals and even some of the programming ones but never the pinout and for the more advanced units they don't tell you how to set the intervals for variables like run time, turbo timer, cranking length... So on

 

You could easily find the hardware installation aspect instructions, but when it comes to programming I'd just bring it to a dealer and have them do it. Apparently you need a bitwriter or something?

 

The advanced units require the Bitwriter the cheaper ones can use it but can be programmed other ways as well. The pinouts were the part I couldn't find for all but a couple very old units. At least in the case of viper and avital units and their refurbished counterparts (viper is a shit company that recycles low QC items under other brand names)

 

I know you didnt ask but alot of times those systems cause all sorts of crazy unwanted symptoms when they decide to stop working correctly and it can be a real bear to troubleshoot and if you do find it to be that system you then in most cases need to have someone else remove it from the truck since it pry took someone else to install it. Maybe it will never malfunction but i see from time to time on here guys having real fits from that or a similar type unit producing problems. Even finding their truck had started on its own and had been running for who knows how long, lol. Pry fairly rare occurrences how ever.... Is the key that hard to use?

Did your truck not come with a key fob?

Heck i figured all the later model trucks all had a factory fob...

 

I've installed a Python keyless entry / remote start system in an old car of mine and was able to find a wiring diagram online, although from a different model.

I recently bought a base level PreRunner that had an old unused alarm system, and had aftermarket lock actuators previously installed. I had Bestbuy install a new Viper keyless / remote start system, mainly because I learned that any eBay system available is refurbished, only dealers get new systems.

I love the convenience off the fob. Remote start is just cool.

I could see how remote start would be a great feature in super hot climates! Id wanna pre cool my rig as well!! Heck and easily pre heat for that matter as well...

 

you will probley need an immobilizer key bypass. FLCAN works the best I install them all the time. you will need to have it flashed by a dealer.

If you have a chipped key a remote start wont work, unless it is bypassed. There are modules out there that mimic a chipped key in the ignition, modules that actually keep a key in place at all times, or you can domthe same with a spare key and a nickels worth of wire. If you have a plain key, nothing is needed.
