Castle Doctrine

As we've have seen last year, the Texas Castle Doctrine is being tested by both gun users and criminals. Here's a link to the story.

In Texas, the Castle Doctrine summarizes to state that the people have the right to protect themselves and property and in some cases the property of a neighbor if they ask you with the use of deadly force. I'm just curious where people stand on this.

 

That article was severely biased and at times inaccurate. I have heard the Joe Horn 911 call and He does not say "boom your dead", He threatened the thieves after they same him and approached them by saying "move and your dead" one of them charged at him and that's when he shot him. He was 100% correct if you ask me.

As for the Castle Doctrine, I believe its a great law.

 

You must allow people to protect themselves, and allow them to stop crimes they become wittness to. Cops cant be everywhere.

I agree. But at the same time, taking a man's life is a damn heavy cross to bear. Deadly force is a tricky thing due to its finality. I've looked down a pair of night sights and seen a man, and it's not a pleasant place to be for either party. In hindsight, I'm glad the hammer stayed back.
I decided a long time ago that if it was him or me, or him or someone else, I wouldn't hesitate, but I'm not going to kill a man behind a television set. I've never met Joe Horn, but I'll bet you given the oppurtunity, he would do things a little differently that day if he could.

 

I agree with you man. Thank God many of us haven't had to face that situation. Of course when the its a different atmosphere when we're just sipping our beer typing away at the keyboard and watching the Rangers lose...(again) than say the adrenaline is pumping away because we just realized that we are in a real situation of blowing someone away. Many of us have never had the opportunity to test our resolve, and hopefully we won't, but we might as be prepared.

 

If someone is willing to break into another persons house, they do so knowing that they could lose their life in doing so. Every crimnal knows that when they commit a crime of that magnitude, there is the possibility that they could get killed, by a homeowner or cop, the end result is the same for them.

Im not saying dont use some common sense, I would never want someone to die over a TV. The problem is, the criminals will kill people over stupid things (i.e., kids have been killed for their shoes), Im not about to die because someone wants my TV, and dosnt want me alive to be able to make a police report.

 

If I am home and hear the glass break they had better hope they have made their peace. It's not the TV anymore, its home invasion and they have made their choice already. I've been burglarized once and it's a bad feeling. Best law on the books, and if justified in TX there won't be a civil trial anymore after Sept. of last year. I have several older widow women in my neighborhood that have adopted me to help them out every now and again. If I witnessed something bad happening on their property I wouldn't hesitate to go to their aid. That's what neighbors are about.

thievery is such bullshit. i can understand if someone needs to feed thier family and is stealing food...other than that, there is no excuse IMO. i put in my 45-50 hours every week at a thankless, dead-end job to try to carve out some happiness and have a few nice things. i don't do it so some waste of oxygen can try and take advantage of me because they are too stupid, too lazy, or just unwilling to earn anything for themselves.

i say, way to go texas! we as a society need to be much less dependent on police to take care of all our problems. i would most definitely think twice about stealing from someone if i know they can legaly defend their property with deadly force. this is how it should be period. in fact, i'm a big proponent of bringing back the chopping off of hands as punishment. with little or no consequences to bear...why not steal? with the knowledge that if i am caught, i may have to learn to wipe my ass with the other hand...the temptation suddenly starts to fade. this goes for so called "white collar" crimes in my book as well. if they would hang a few of these bankers and swindling board members right out in front of everyone at lunchtime on Wall Street, i don't think you'd hear much about pension & retirement plans being stolen by these uber-capitalistic bastards whos only concern is to get enough money to buy a bigger house or yacht than their equaly self-serving buddies on the golf course, whilst laughing about how they tricked the gooberment into letting them steal millions. as for the common street theif...if the suits can steal millions...billions and get away with it...why shouldn't he be able to steal a 42" plasma to trade for some meth? we need to get a handle on this asap, and texas has taken a great step forward in doing so.

American values need a facelift in a BIG way. seems to me anymore, that as long as there are profits to be made, there are no moral boundaries to heed to. the worst part is, we are cannibalizing ourselves.

i think its a great law but here in VA ur not allowed to shoot them unless theyre in your house with a weapon. so if theyre in your yard with a gun u cant shoot or theyre in your house without a weapon no shoot. Go texas

 

If i see someone doing shit that could cause bodily harm to anyone else im gonna do whatever i need to do to stop them

 

in the yard...shoot them, then use their hand to fire a round or two at the house.

as for in the house...any dark colored object in hand that is not clearly visible can be considered a weapon...ask the police. put one round in a knee cap also. "i tried to wound, but he kept coming"
