what type of plugs did you put back in

Where are you guys finding the Denso Copper's?

My Dad got me some NGK Iridiums for dirt cheap.

 

I will not use any other plug but NGK or Denso. I have heard of too many Autolite failures. Champion isn't bad but I have had great results with NGK and Denso. Losing spark on a cylinder isn't as bad as dropping a cylinder on a motorcycle. Especially if you have two or less.

 

Dunno about what happened to splitfire but I have NEVER used anything but denso for the most part maybe ngk a coupla times when store didn't have denso in any toyota since 1976. Anything else got chewed up and spit out in less than a month just like you never changed them.

The craptastic autolites that the dealer left in my 05 during the "165 pt preowned certification" (which is bullshit ad gimmick) weren't even close to the denso iridiums that the 05 2.7l 4 cyl calls for as oem other than the thread pitch. They were at least 1/4 to 3/8ths" shorter than the densos & immediately upon replacement made the cold start idle uncrazy and motor ran noticeably smoother all the time. Denso or NGK FTMFW in japanese cars/trucks.

 

Just hit 30,000 miles and I installed 6 denso iridium plugs yesterday, new air filter (engine), new air filter (cabin), adjusted my head lights and installed the high lift jack in the bed. Took about 4 hours taking my time for everything but it works fine.

The darn iridium plugs were ~$8 each (plus tax) but I had a $10 off coupon for Advanced Discount Auto Parts so it wasn't that bad.
Thanks to Chris 4x4 for the step by step DIY or it would have taken MUCH LONGER for me to figure what had to be removed from the drivers side.

 

I replaced mine with denso copper. Got them for 2.75/ea from the dealer. I gapped mine to .041. I did notice the NGK plugs that I took out had a gap of .049? Any idea what that's all about? This is for a '07 DC 4.0 4x4.

 

The gap will widen over time between the electrode and ground due to the sparking process, it's normal.

 

Platinum and Iridium plugs keep their gap longer. I just got some Denso Iridium plug's for my truck. Just remember, for the Gen 1 3.4L, you need a twin ground plug (or at least its recommended in the user manual).

I put E3's in mine at about 30,000 miles, 7,000 miles ago. No better gas mileage. It runs strong. I tow a 4,000 lb camper and no problems. I'll probably pull them out at 50,000 and see how they look. I figured they had to be better than two different kinds from the factory.

 

ive heard alot of good storys using them in chevys and stuff but hadnt heard how thay perform in toyotas . . im probly gona give em a try

 

6 denso coppers in my garage. they go in tomorrow. figured i'll stay with the 30k mile interval anyways, no sense stepping up from copper.

I use Denso Iridum U-gaps. No difference in power or fuel economy the computer on the 2.7L will fight anything you do to it. Then when its fighting a loseing battle it goes into a type of "limp mode".

 

I wanted to try out the new E3 spark plugs, so I bought those and installed them. I like them because I didn't have to gap them and I got them a good deal on them because I have an account at O'Reilley's.
Also, they're rated at 100,000 miles so I don't have to worry about swapping them out anytime soon.

 

Just put Denso coppers in my V6 this weekend..

 

I put in Denso copper cores.

IIRC, the plugs are supposed to be gapped at .041. The old Densos were at about .045-.046. The old NGKs were at about .055-.056.
