Never, I have a tonneau cover. When I do need to tie things down I use the d rings on the floor & the 12 came with tie downs in the from of the bed walls. It does hold my cb antenna mount though.
I do use the sides for the cover & hi lift mounts.

 

Dude! I've got 3 and I'm 22. Granted I got them free all last year but still haha

Define as a truck? But probably not if I'm being honest lol.

 

I've used the cab rail a few times, but mostly for tying down multiple kayaks and other odd loads

 

I only have the back d rings so i use mine pretty often and with a short bed things quickly get upto or over the bed rails which is where the rail tiedowns shine since u dont have to fish a strap down thru whatever ur haulin.

 

That mostly what I use the bed for is our kayaks and other random times where I'm hauling something that doesn't fit in the back seat.

 

Short beds don't have tie downs in the front lower corners?
Mine has one each side there, not on the floor of the bed like the read D's, but they're about 2" up the side of the bed.

 

I could see it being convenient to haul something flat against the cab.

i.e. I would use it to haul my grill if I were to ever take it somewhere.

 

This is what mine looks like minus the outlet in the back. I just have another cubby on that side.
