A little more about the truck, it is a double cab, long bed, v6 auto 2006 with 92 thousand miles. Local ma & pa car dealer is asking $20k. Can certainly bargain that down a bit, but this will be my first truck purchase. Have determined that this rig is pretty solid and will run for a while. Just cautious about the price since I have seen some other posts shot down for truck around 100k above $15k. Anything helps. Thanks

That seems very high. I bought my 2009 in December 2015 for $16k. It was one owner, SR5 4x4 with 116k miles. It was also from a dealer. And that's here in California where Tacomas always go for more.

My negotiation tactic would be to tell them it basically has 100k, and use that as your price reference. As soon as a vehicle hits 100k it takes a price hit.

Taco is mostly stock... for now
Where are you located? I just paid 15,900 Canadian for an 06 Access Cab, TRD Off road, about 81,250 miles, absolutely mint condition.

Double cab Long box is worth a little more, I saw a DC SB going for about 22k, wouldn't move on it. I felt it was way overpriced.

Is it a base model, TRD off-road, TRD sport? 4x4 or prerunner?

I live in Western Washington, where they also seem marked up across the board. It's a 4x4, non trd. Has had two owners, the last being in his seventies and averaged about 4K miles per year. Got into two fender benders but nothing major.

Goal was to get it down to around $17-18k. Seems like a fair price based on the market over here, but this is my first pick up so don't have a large amount of experience in this realm.

I would avoid it unless you can get it under $15K.
I don't really care about Toyota pricing trends, etc. 100K on an 11 year old vehicle that has been in a couple accidents. Too many question marks on the maintenance with two owners. Any dealer supplied warranty?

You can buy the 2017 version of that DCLB non TRD 4x4 for aprox $34K according to the toyota website.

I would even look towards another brand if I was pinched for cash and needed a truck. I recommend finding something newer.

Shok Industries 2/0 big 4 upgrade and sound deadener.
Not a chance. I bought my 2006 with 60,000 miles for under 17K back in 2009.

I have an '06 access cab with 265k on it. That's a higher than avg. going price. I personally think the access cab trucks are better looking and thus worth more to me, but that's strictly personal preference. You should be able to get it for a lot less.

Some issues with that year concerning motor mounts and head gasket. Go newer for that price

Put that money down on a new truck and have small payments, less problems, and a truck that will last longer.

Thanks for all of the advice everyone. I'm going back there in a few hours and will drive and inspect it again. Planning on walking if I can't get him to drop it significantly or including a warranty with a decent price drop.

Yea... in US dollars, I wouldn't touch that truck for more than 15k. I literally bought mine 3 weeks ago, for 15k Canadian (about a 35% exchange right now....). Mine has lower miles, and TRD OR package. Came with a soft cover and brand new tires. Mint inside and out.

The guy was pretty tight on the price. Wouldn't drop it more than $500 so I ended up walking. I appreciate all the advice. Might have moved on it based upon the market prices where I live had I not posted here.
