How to reset and calibrate your VSC computer - The Easy way

Just want to check in. I did this a few days ago. Everything was super easy and went exactly as @Crom described it. Then I went out to a few turns where I used to experience the typical outside front brake engaging and sending me towards the woods unless I slowed to 10mph below the speed limit. I was able to stay at the speed limit with no issues now for both left and right turns. Awesome post thanks again

So just ri clarify when taking a decline corner quickly and once in a while having my front outside brakes automatically apply is corrected by doing this method? Cause I figured one day that loss of control was gonna pull me either into opposing traffic or into the brush. Either way I hate that and never felt I had really been going too fast for the conditions.

With a lift the center of gravity and the geometry of the lean is changed. My truck became very sensitive and the computer kicking on the outside brake was way too often. This method made my truck back to normal. I'm sure there may be a few instances where the vsc may still activate but so far it hasn't kicked in and the issue has been improved greatly.

I have a 2015 6cyl 6 speed. I just replaced tires from 245/75/16 to 265/75/16. After leaving the tire shop both ABS and VSC came on steady. I tried this recal and I did get the lights to flash for the first part. For the 2nd part, the ABS and VSC did flicker faster right away. But both lights remain lit. I do not notice any drivability issues. Any ideas?

 

I believe you have a different problem. The ABS light doesn't come on unless there is a malfunction. I would check your wheel speed sensors are intact, and trace the wiring to make sure that the shop didn't damage during install.

You did highlight both lights in your pictures on original post so that is what I am using as reference. So if they damaged the wheel speed sensors the ABS would come on (makes sense).....does that make the VSC also light up?

 

Usually yes. The abs computer is what controls traction control and stability control. I ripped a wire once and both came on as well. Most likely the tire shop damaged something.

So it turns out the tire rubbed through the ABS wire. Ordered the wire and connectors and should be ok after some rerouting to prevent future issues.

Ok, so I have a stupid question (most of the things I seem to ask these days are).

Is it possible for the newer tacos (mine is a '15) to relearn VSC? Immediately after lifting my truck, I was getting the obnoxious VSC/ABS crap going around corners that I had previously had no issue with. After about a month, it stopped, and hasn't returned since (>1 year lifted now).

I'm guessing I just changed my driving habits without realizing it, but I'm curious if it's possible for VSC self-learning. Or hell, maybe the dealer wiped it for me at one point and didn't tell me.

 

My guess would be: Highly unlikely

Hey all, new member here. Finally got my 2011 access cab 6spd manual after waiting many years. Bought from a private dealer with 25k miles. Some small issues now that I've been driving it a bit, namely with VSC / slip indicator light.
Start the engine up, no VSC light. As I accelerate, 1st and 2nd gear there is a noticeable hesitation and lugs/no power at about 2k rpm. Unable to rev engine or accelerate above 20mph, dangerous in town. Eventually the slip indicator light turns on and the power 'punches' back. After this I do not have any power or acceleration issues, but the slips indicator light stays on.
Iv'e noticed if I hit the VSC off switch, and Auto LSD comes on, also returns power. I don't really want to do this every time i start the engine.
Is this a correct situation to try recalibrating the VSC computer? Hesitant to do so, but it seems like this would help based on all the forums i've read on it.
The VSC system / Auto LSD does work, I felt and heard the system turn on on a snowy road / corner last week, which seemed appropriate and worked fine
Also of note, the dealer had done a front end alignment before sale, stock suspension and wheels, could this have just thrown the computer? Since it wasn't a toyota dealer maybe they didn't finish the job and recalibrate?
