if you leave wire 2 on the J2 side disconnected, wouldn't that disable the rear camera when in reverse?

Yes, as shown you'd lose the camera turning on when you shift into reverse and the diode serves no purpose.

The wire from J2 needs to remain attached to J1 (the side going into the radio). The diode needs to be on that wire to prevent voltage from backflowing to J2 pin 2 when the switch is engaged. S1 would be an SPST switch, ideally wired "normally open" if

That looks good for the reverse-cam mod.

I don't know. I've not researched whether those are the primary inputs or an additional/secondary set of inputs.

Unless you're intending to do something with audio/video I'd just leave the wires in place.

    Note:
    From fbconvert:
"You have to select the display input on the OEM radio just like you would a Bluetooth device. If you jump the two pairs of pins like I show in the diagram the you will see a new source option appear next to the Bluetooth option that will say A/V. If you connected your iPod like you said then it will display on the screen. You will also be able to control the volume via the radio knob just like you would a Bluetooth input. "

From the 2016 FSM, this connector is named N25 on the navigation head unit and the pins above are listed as follow:
N25-15 is a Parking brake switch signal indicating when the parking brake is on or off.
    N25-11 is shield-ground
    N25-12 is not mentioned
N25-25 is External Device Connection Signal and routes to the AUX/USB jack assembly in the center switch panel above the cup holders.

Personally I'm not thinking that jumpering those two pairs would be wise on a third gen truck without further info.

As for the A/V pins mentioned:
N25-26, N25-27, and N25-28 also go to the same assembly and is the audio input.
    N25-13 & N25-14 are not mentioned.

Tap 12 vdc from Grey wire as indicated (not recommended).
For my Taco, I'd connect directly from PowerOutlet fusebox.

Thanks for your info, just to be clear, switching power manually to pin 2 to activate the camera will NOT cause the reverse lights to come on, correct?

My bad, I mean fuse box inside the cab, under driver side. One labeled "power outlet" see:

I think that is for the camera mod which is helpful. But I am looking to do the nav bypass mod which is interrupting the speed sensing wire. I am assuming one end to the green and the other end to red 1.
