If I had access to water like that I'd go fishing...our lakes are froze over right now and I dont ice fish...

Next couple days of rain/melting is going to wreak havoc on roads...I dont know if this is the spring warm up or just another storm. We've had decent amounts of snow.

Really? You use fram filters? Those are among the worst. The best filters (for 2nd gen anyway) are usually factory Toyota filters. A guy did a write up comparison on here of a bunch of different oil filters, and none quite compared to the Toyota filter

I never really noticed any difference other than price. I use wix now which is comparable to Amsoil filters.

Does wix use the material designed for 15000 mile intervals? That was one thing that always scared me a little with the Amsoil filters, going that long between changes

Im not sure but Ive been told its basically the same thing. I used the extended life Amsoil and amsoil filters in my 2007 Nissan truck and it had no ill effects changing the oil once a year, and I commuted 45miles one way daily for five years. I sold my truck in 2012 and it was still going strong like it was when I bought it brand new.

I switched to Amsoil in my Tacoma. First batch I put in, I ran for 10000 miles, then changed it out. I was going to run 15k on that oil and all of it after, but about 4000 miles into it, my truck was totaled. I a about to switch my dodge to Amsoil, and again 10k for first run, then 15k intervals. It should work out perfectly to put it onto every 15k by odometer, like if it always had been. 125k on the clock now.

I run royal purple oil and filters only because the guy I bought it from had already been running it. 190xxx miles now still comes out clean every time

I was reading up on oils at one point, and Royal Purple didn't come out as good as it seemed to claim. I want to say that the sheer something or other on it was low for the price tag and being full synthetic, and I think it had more issues at low temperatures, like anything getting toward negative.
That was a few years ago that I looked this up, so memory may be mixing stuff up a little. I do remember that in every category of this independent study, Amsoil was either the best or second best, while all others were better suited to one category or another, but not as broad of ability.

AMSoil or redline are the only two synthetics i will run. i hear great things about schaeffers oil but haven't crossed that line.

I was about to get redline, then I found the study on oil I mentioned earlier. That's back at the time when the motor in my car had redline of 8200 rpm, and cutoff at 8400. Power band started about 6200. For what I do now, I personally plan to stick with Amsoil.

One thing that kinda sucks on my new truck is that I need 7 quarts of oil instead of 5. I also have more than double the displacement and horsepower over the Tacoma, so 2 extra quarts is probably a good thing.

Wow. I didn't realize people were picky about what type of oil they used. I switched my truck over to synthetic and I thought I was cool, hahaha. I think the last oil I put in was Mobile 1 synthetic. I'll probably have Toyota do my next oil change.

I run ams with a factory filter. Used to change it every 3K but i rarely make it to 3K in a year so now i just change it before RT and call it good.
