DIY: Wiring after-market lights

Yeah, those look awesome, but I would definitely be worried about the brightness of those halos driving down our long Nevada highways at night with the occasional crossing elk Your setup is definitely the way to go! Thanks again for taking the time to show me all of that man, I'm really tempted now.

 

The halos are just an accessory to your running lights. Thats what you wire them into. Just for looks. That pic is only with the running lights on, not headlights. The headlights themselves seem much brighter than my old stock headlights.

hey guys, planning to get 4 pods in the future and use this write up to install them... can someone help me understand how this step is done?

"9. Cut another length of 14 gauge wire long enough to go from the relay to your off-road lights. Put a spade connector on one end of the wire and plug it into the relay post marked 87 (NOT the one marked 87a). Connect the other end of this wire to the black wires of BOTH off-road lights."

i understand i will connect the 14 gauge wire to a spade connector and onto relay 87. But how do i connect the other end of the 14 gauge wire to 4 different black wires on 4 different light pods?

 

I have your same lights and love em just waiting till I can complete my retros! Are you running HIDs or the stock lights

 

Anyone have any photos of the wire routing path for roof mounted light bars?

Id get a deutch connector on Amazon. And they're water proof. Thats what ill be doing as soon as I order the sPod this week. Ive got some ditch lights to wire in

 

Funny that you just posted here...I came here looking for alternatives to the switch that I have in now for my ditch lights.

 

Re check your wiring. Don't put a bigger fuse in.

 

Okay, I have a question. First off, I'm a total newb related to wiring, so go easy on me. I'm getting ready to wire up a light bar with a switch in the cab.

All the write ups I've seen show the relay being wired to the battery, a ground, the lights, and the switch. My question relates to the connection to the battery. Obviously that's providing the power. But, is there any reason instead of wiring direct to the battery I can't run the wire from the relay to an add a fuse in a blank in the fuse box in the engine compartment? Or do a fuse piggy back in the engine compartment fuse box to pull the power?

If this is possible, are there any benefits to this as opposed to wiring direct to the battery? Just seems a little cleaner then wiring direct to the battery. Anyways, flame away if this is not possible or just bad practice.

Careful with your fusing, guys. I read a few posts that have 20amp fuses on a 14awg wire. 14awg is only rated for 15amps. 12 is rated for 20.

 

I have a question about using a relay for aux lighting and lighted switch. When I bought my Apex fog pods, I got an harness and a relay with instruction and I followed them to install everything. All went well and my lights are working good. I used a "add a circuit" and tapped into the fuse that has power when I flip on my parking/headlights. When I flip them on, my swith is light up and when I turn it on my pods are on.

If I understand well, when I flip on my parking/headlights on, I give the signal to the relay to draw the power from the battery for the pods when I'll flip my lighted switch on. Am I right? If so, is there a way to estimate the power drawn from the fuse tap to give the "signal" and to light the switch? I would like to wire 2 set of lights (pods and my Hella's that are laying on the shelve, and maybe an other set) into the same location in the fuse box to have them all on with the parking light switch. Can I do that?

So you want to wire multiple pods and such to come on automatically when you turn your parking lights on?

 

It is already done and works well. But because I would like to have all my switches to be lighted when I turn on my parking light, I want to wire them all on the same fuse tap... but for each light set its own relay and fuse link...

A bit hard to explain... I am better with drawing lol

Just replaced my factory headlights and tail lights on my 2015 tacoma. I now have the factory lights for sale. $200.00 for all 4. I live in Frisco, Tx. But anywhere in dfw metroplex is convenient to meet. Cash talks, everything else walks (empty handed )
