Ive got that set up, rpms are a little high on the highway, but great for everything else.
I had 4.88s in the past and prefer the 5.29s, but would have prefered a 5.00 or a 5.13 (if available)

I'm not as heavy as you but I'm running MT 305 70 16. (Fat 33's) 4.56 auto with a 3.4 4x4. It runs great and I like the shifting points on it. On high way I stay in the 2000's range 65-80. If you go over 80 you'll be in the 3000 and above range.

Those of you with 1st gens,
When getting a wider rear end, how many of you would go with a ford 9 over the tundra rear end?

i did the tundra. mainly because the diff flange matched my drive flange. to me its a preference of what you'd rather service and crap down the road

    ...too much shit to list.
It comes down to what you are willing to spend. 9" will cost you more than a tundra axle will, but you get away from the tiny 8" ring gear.

I'm going tundra so I don't have to regear another diff or add another locker. Just swap mine over

9" is stronger, you can buy a yoke that makes it bolt up to toyota dshaft

Please explain this. Because if you can beat my $100 tundra axle that i'll need to redo the brakes on and bearings but already have a built third for...im all ears!

$100 is not the standard price for those. Plus he's talking price of building them

got my tundra axle from 150$ untouched. By far way cheaper building them. ive looked into a 9" on my crawler and its stupid how much it costs.

Do you have a link to that yoke or just know that it does exist?

Only one I can find is for $1000, but haven't been looking hard lately

Plus I can't swap an elocker into any of the tundra axles I've ever tracked down

Oh..most people i know get them for under 400 easily.. :notsure:

Id love a 9'' but can't justify the cost.

Yea no elocker. Runs the 8.4'' diff. Why its ideal for those of us that have open diffs already that have regeared and locked them. Just a direct swap.

you should be able to find them cheaper then that.

Yes sometimes you can find a deal on a t100/tundra axle and bolt it in for fairly cheap. It's slightly stronger then the taco axle and wider, for a mild play truck you could make it last.
If you plan on beating on the truck, the 9" is going to be stronger and cheaper to build. Hands down, end of story.
I have spent years and too much money trying to make a taco axle, then and tundra axle, then a t100 axle work. Wasted a bunch of time and money.
At then end of the day, it all depends on how hard you are beating on it and how much money you want to spend

    Good point.

I figure if I decide links are gonna happen. The 9'' will happen. The t100 axle is so cheap at this point for me Im not to that point of constant flogging generally.

So on that note, I bought that 9" axle off someone on here, can't remember his name but he's building a beast, its a semifloat econoline axle 69" WMS, has anyone used the semifloat to full float conversion kits from Ruffstuff? It's pretty much just gathering dust and I might just turn around and sell it, but I'm halfway considering just slowly building it up until I can just swap it right in.
