    What does your odometer read?

    Could be a re-build?

Look around the drivers door and under the hood for a odometer replacement certification sticker.

The thing was rolled back 100k miles. There is not going to be a sticker for that.

Actually excuse me. OP, you might have a sticker that resembles this in your door jamb:

Two possibilities: either someone rolled it back and pulled a fast one, or they replaced the dash console for a legitimate reason.

I did that with my old poverty spec 97 5 lug. I replaced the lame no-tach console with one that had a tach (it was a 5 speed for god's sake!), but it had fewer miles on the odo. When I traded it in for my current Taco, I told them about it, even gave them the mileage difference and filled out some paperwork. A few weeks later I get a call from the DMV and they were all hot and bothered I was trying to pull one over. I explained what I did, even offered a copy of the paperwork I had.

The DMV guy said he'd call the dealer and check. He called back a day later. Apparently the dopey salesman at the dealer didn't file the paperwork properly.

That sounds legit, but they didn't let me know when I bought it, it's in great condition and it's a 14 year old car so I guess I'll just keep it till it explodes. Let this be a lesson to always get carfax !

I know it's a little off topic, but you can swap the ODO reading from the no tach cluster to the new tach cluster. I did this when swapping my no tach cluster into my 5 lug Tacoma...

Would have been good to know that 10 years ago when I got rid of my 5 lug...

I remember having to break into the cluster, and I was too lazy. I was just glad the swap was plug and play and I didn't have to re-wire anything.

BTW, I live in Carmichael. Probably seen you driving around.

Carfax's are great, but from what I understand not every car has them, and not every shop reports to them for the repairs. So you are basically just getting when people wanted to report to Carfax.
