I have the repeater app, but it isn't always up to date and finding active repeaters is hard. In AZ we have very active groups and even more repeaters.

Www.w7ara.org is the Arizona Repeater Association. They own the majority of repeaters in the state, several of them all linked. One is the Metro Link connects the Valley with the Rim, also one linked from West Valley to Yuma area to San Diego, and they are working on the Montana Link right now.

Also check out 4x4ham.com , tons of info and a few off-roading trips. It is Jeep dominated, but they are the exception to the jeep rule. Based out of AZ but they also have groups in other states.

One more to look into, mcecg.net That's the Maricopa County Emgerncey Comminications Group. They work charity events from foot races, bike races, to crazy extreme races. It is an amazing group that focus on practicing ham radio skills while helping the community. They are actually used by the state's EOC during emergencies. I have had a lot of fun off-roading and camping for some of their events, which are all over the state. They also hold classes, for free $0.99.

My biggest advice, find the locals clubs, google them, and hit a few up. You don't have to give them money, or buy stuff from them, they will give you advise and help you out.

One last place, there is a Ham Radio BS thread on TW with tons of info and lots of pics.

Get on the air and say hello!

MT stuff, RTT stuff, the usual.
Mine is a $40ish 150psi regulator from Sierra. Went cheap on the hose, cheap Walmart kit for now until I buy nicer gear. I'm in my kit a little over $125 right now, including having the tank filled.

Thanks for the info. I will def play around with it. Say for instance I was planning a trip to the Chiricauhas and going to scout a spot and have some friends from Tucson meet me a day later. What would be the best way for us to communicate? How far out could we expect to be in contact with handhelds? Or handhelds with an external antenna maybe.

Awesome. 4x4ham sounds like a great place to start. I did search last night and found the ham thread on here. I'm gonna fire it up today so I'm sure I'll have more questions.

I'm use to be in with ham, not so much anymore when my dad passed away. We had a 75ft tower at our house in West Mesa with a repeater on it. I need to get back into it and get license.

I have a free full tank from my pops. Just need a regulator an hose but obviously it's not a quick run to serria for me I'm tryin to see if the regulator is some special one or one my pops has.

Do you by chance have a link to the regulator from serria? I looked last night on their web site only to find all full PowerTank or whatever it's call kits

    It's just a 150 psi regulator. Non-adjustable.
This is the same thing: http://www.polyperformance.com/poly-performance-co2-fixed-regulator-227c-150

You can use any regulator you want and just set it to its max. An adjustable regulator could be adjusted to say 300 psi and would fill faster

Not sure if its a sexual offer or genuine o_O

Just tell your pop a static regulator @150psi with no gauge. (C02 will read full until its out)

When I bought mine Will said its something he doesn't list on the website. He definitely has the best price I found. So id ask him hold one or pay for it and pick it up on Saturday. I can probably pick it up for you but im not sure im going to the meet.
