New member but long time visitor with 05 prerunner. Im starting to see more and more members posting about head gasket issues on the early 2nd gens. Can we get a poll going with some type of mileage/year of members with and without this issue? Also can we get a little indepth on the type of oil used (including how many quarts) i know it shows 5 quarts but most refill at 5.5 quarts. Sorry if this has been covered just trying to figure out if this is a serious issue that i have to prepare for. Also as @KenLyns pointed out. Coolant change out with mileage if possible. Thanks

06 with 99,700 no problems yet. but I got a feeling I will be doing some preventative maintenance soon. like trans flush and diff change with maybe a timing chain. I use mobile 1 full synthetic with a quart of lucas. 5.5 quarts total

It would probably more relevant to list the years/mileage at which the coolant was replaced.

Good to hear no issues. Seems like it might just be a selected a few with the 05-06 headgasket issue. Hopefully they will post some of the preventive maintenance they did or did not do.

Mine is leaking at 138K. I don't think it matters when u change your oil or fluids just if its leaking and what mileage. Slowish leak maybe getting a bit worse. Right bank towards the rear

I didn’t want to start a new thread since there’s already a lot on this subject. But I can’t find the specific info I’m looking for. I’ve read that the Head gaskets were updated on the later 06 models. Does anyone know when specifically these were updated? I have an 06 Tacoma that was manufactured in August of 2006.

Pretty sure mine is leaking. 03/2006 186k miles.

I have a bad idler anyway, thinking about replacing them all along with the water pump, and belt tensioner.

This doesn’t seem to apply to all 05-06. How many miles? Do you know the maintenance records? I Just changed coolant @70k with the oem toyota pink coolant. Original coolant still looked good. Currently at 72k. Also im bot aure when the updated gaskets came in. Hopefully someone can chime in soon.
