I measured mine with two different analyzers.
One reported 431Hz and the other 430Hz.

    These were collected at 52-54mpg.

Dropped my 17 OR with the dealer this morning for this. It also makes a popping noise from the rear at times when I stop. Doesn't seem like anything will be resolved after reading through this thread, but at least it will be documented. I want to put a lift and tires soon, don't want them saying the lift/tires are the cause of this, if anything does break.

The service dept manager at my dealer told me to hold off on Tires and Lift until these suspension and differential issues are resolved and/or adjudicated officially. He said if I go adding stuff on the truck now it will likely force their hand to declining service for the issues. Automatic attribution to the aftermarket mods. I have a good relationship with him and so I have no reason to believe he would lie to me.

If it's documented and you have a video of the sound, I would not be worried at all about lifting. Especially you smitty. All the times your truck has been in there for the howl, they won't tell you it didn't exist before the lift.. you're just worried the truck will be slower and shift even worse ;)

    It's an automatic.

That's what I was worried about. I just received a call back from the dealership, they said the howl was the tires and exhaust right at those 50-65 speeds. They also said I was the first person they know of that has reported this issue and they also drove another 17 to compare to mine, both made the "tire/exhaust" howl (I'm sure....). Rear diff fluid was fine and no issues with it. They did the update to the transmission at least. Could not duplicate the popping noise when braking.

I really want to lift this thing, but with my luck and dealership I'm positive they will associate a lift and tires to the howl in the case it does break down the line.

Anyone with the howling changed tires and noted no difference? I'm seeing feathering in the stock tires at the front, outer blocks and hearing a very subtle howl coming from the front that's speed dependent and cannot be easily heard when you give it any gas. Feathering notoriously produces a howl.

Quickly searching this thread, seen a few others note changing tires and not hearing the howl though it's unclear if that's because the new tires were louder than stock.

I swapped to Falken Wildpeaks 265/75/16 and still have it. Noise is well documented with Toyota with stock tires so I'm not too worried about them turning me away if a solution is released. No lift for me though, yet!

Come on it's definitely not tires,it would be doing it at all speeds then.Mine starts at 50-58 and that's it.I tried several times to do it at 47,48,49 and so forth and I can't get it to make noise.Only when I'm in between those speeds

Not everyone may be experiencing the same symptoms but similar enough to lump it in, so there may be multiple causes.

Wheel bearings may be a contributor as well and may be resonating with the differential enough to throw off the source of the noise.

I have noticed recently that the noise in my truck is a bit intermittent and generally quieter than it was. Have no idea why. I have almost 11,000 miles on it. Have had nothing done to the stock truck except the plugs in lower control arms.

I am hoping the Manual Transmission Trucks do not suffer this same issue since they have 4:30 Gears.

I can tell you from experience that they do have the issue. Mine is loud as hell and I'm on differential number two.

Have you had the lower control arm plugs put in? That may be the noise from the front end There is a TSB on it.

Not yet, but it's different than the howl I heard with cross winds. It's a consistent speed noise that increases and decreases with speed. 99% sure it's the tire wear.
