Sweet!! Im glad that some people are down to go! My GF and i want to go to the Grand Canyon also...

I know that Big Bend is a bit closer but would it be worth it to go the extra distance for the Grand Canyon??

I am waiting for the weather to warm up and dry out a bit... but i want to get down there before the bugs come out. Im limited on the cold weather camping gear at the moment so its either wait it out or buy more gear...
You have so many trips planned already man! Im thinking a day to drive there... 3 days to camp.... drive back...

I know man, but I could more than likely swing that, I get some pretty good PTO time here, just need to see how much I will need for the main trips I want to take.

I could take off a Friday and leave Thursday afternoon or something and then drive back Sunday or something.

Not to mention I could also switch or cover someones shift and not have to take off PTO possibly.

That would be nice to swap shift to get more time off. I used to be able to do that when i was an analyst but now that i am a technician that went out the window...

I will look up some dates and check out the weather patterns for the past years in a farmers almanac or something...

I'd be down for a grand canyon trip but the time where it's worth going for camping is narrow. It stays cold at the bottom for a long time, then it's perfect, then it's too hot, then it's nice then cold again. I think April is the best time but not positive.

I want to look at the farmers almanac to check average rainfall and temp during each month.

After a bit of research it looks like the best time to go to Big Bend would be late March early May....

My birthday is early May so we should plan a trip to Big Bend Cinco De Mayo weekend! May 5th is a Friday FYI....

I KNOW!!! They are also going to limit the vehicles to 350 this year as well. I am going to register the very second they open so I can make sure I am in.

I mayyy be able to make April 8th work... I'm in school to become a flight medic in the Army. Should be finishing up mid to late March and only going to Fort Hood after. So i might be moving during that time but that's no big deal still being in Texas.

    Sweet! The more the better!

I need to build up a med kit in my truck! I just got a pouch to put everything in, now i just need to get some materials to put into it! Any suggestions? I wish i would have kept my med kit from when i was deployed! Minus the chem and morphine pens of course!

Biggest thing I always have is tourniquets, gauze, and tape. Stop a big bleed and make band-aids for smaller stuff.
Outside of that then there are comfort things like Tylenol, anti diarrhea meds, tweezers, maybe a pair of trauma shears. I have chest seals and a few extra things I've swiped but for the most part I like to keep things simple...

I actually have three kits in my truck. One in the glove box, one behind the seat, and then a big one under the rear seat.

The one in the Glove box and underneath the seat are from Adventure Medical Kits, one is the Adventure First Aid 2.0 and one is the Mountain Series Fundamentals. The one that is behind the seat is in a rip off pouch and it store tourniquet, quick clot, and trauma shears and more hardcore stuff that I like to keep on hand.

Heck, I even have a Mountain Series Weekender that I keep in the house for backup to the bigger kit... and speaking of which, I need to check both kits and restock some bandaids and meds that I have used so far.

I actually bought a case of the Adventure First Aid 1.0 kits and gave them away as Christmas presents for family to put in their vehicles.

Yeah im not really trying to build a trauma kit, just a simple med kit.

    Was thinking...
    Burn cream
    SAM splint
    sling
    quick tourniquet
    quick clot
    tape
    shears
    gauze
    band aids and ointment
    Advil/Tylenol
    sharpie
    ace bandage

This would be for common injuries on the trails, I also ride BMX bikes, so if someone twists/breaks something... (Ive seen face plants to concrete a few too many times to not have a med kit handy) Last one i saw the guy got a good concussion, he woke up super out of it, kinda came to for a bit, and then lost it again! So we sent him to the hospital. He turned out to be ok...
