This is a good explanation of what I am feeling/hearing. The roads have been un-smooth with ice these last couple of weeks so haven't been able to confirm the vibs go away in 4WD. Looks like I'll have to upgrade the bushing. Might as well, right?

Do it. I debated about the bushing, but read nothing but good reviews. If it goes away in 4WD then it's definitely the needle bearing.

Between my 1st gen Tacoma and my 4th gen 4Runner I've racked up about 100,000 miles on the bushings and they've held up well. Like pointed out above, there's nothing but good reviews and not much that can go wrong if properly installed. It's a pretty easy mod to do yourself if you have the tools and a few hours to spare.

I just received my lift today from Headstrong. I read this post and ordered the bushing to be installed with the lift.

It's a must have, the needle bearing eventually goes out randomly.

Just finished talking to my dealership. They played dumb as if this was never an issue after I brought it up that my research has found this to be a known problem.
They said try to go through corporate or else they would just replace the needle with another one.
Whatever. Getting it done locally I guess.
Just hate I have to wait till next Tuesday to get it. Then I have an appointment the following Tuesday. Ugh I hope my trip to Huston and back doesn't mess it up more before I can get to it.
Went ahead and got the install& removal tool, and seal.
Third gen here, 6k, 2 inch front level.

Plenty people were lifted for 20k plus miles with the noise and no damage. You will be fine.

LOL, replace with a new needle bearing and have that one go out again real quick.

Had the ECGS bushing installed today. Also had the TSB for the new leaf packs, steering damper as well as the TSB to plug the lower control arm holes. The good news is the vibration is GONE!!!! The truck rides really smooth so far and the horrible vibration I had is gone. The bad news is since they installed everything at once I can't say for sure which actually fixed the vibration. If I had to put my money on one it would definitely be the ECGS bushing for sure!! I highly recommend upgrading to the bushing.

Did mine this weekend. Vibes are gone and its back to a quiet from end again. For those of you thinking about doing this yourself I just want to point out that you will basically destroy the needle bearing getting it out of there.

Make sure you use a magnet to get the shards out of the housing before re-installing the axle. Follow the ECGS instructions on the video they made and you'll be fine.

It felt lame paying for the removal and install tool, but after seeing how easy it is to what seems like shatter that POS, guess I'm glad I did. Dude at A1 gear will hopefully appreciate it lol.

Did you get their tools or use what ya had?

Put it in 4wd and drive it. If the noise goes away, it is most likely the bearing. Also, if you lifted with an AAL or new springs, you probably need axle shims and a carrier bearing drop. Block lifts provide the necessary angle change that the axle shims provide. Carrier bearing drop is a trial and error method I found. I got replacement bolts that were longer and used a combination of washers to get the driveshaft back into alignment.

Thanks! Already had the bushing installed by ECGS. My noise and vibration is gone. So far no new noises or problems with the rear end, but I'll keep an eye and an ear on it for problems with rear driveshaft alignment.

Been feeling the same random vibrations that you guys are mentioning here. Cyclical, comes and goes, especially noticeable at around 70kph. Also felt the rumble sensation under braking here and there.

Had the All Pro Expedition leaf pack installed today and that seems to have made the vibration much more pronounced. Got the truck booked in for Thursday to have the ECGS bushing installed and alignment done. Fingers crossed!

I just got home after doing mine. THE VIBE IS GONE! I'm so happy.
If anyone wants the tools I got both the pieces, the uninstall piece and the tool set for instal.

are any of you running oil different than the Lucas 85W140 non-synth that ECGS recommends?
