Shipping is costly, so one big buy reduces that.

When considering a location also keep in mind that with reverse osmosis systems you also need to run a line to a drain. For every ounce of filtered water it creates, it also dumps an ounce of unfiltered water.

Then under the sink it is. I'll just run a longer line to the fridge. Thanks!

@SilverGhost My parents also have one of those under the sink systems, and as the others said it's just connected to the fridge and a separate faucet on the kitchen sink, it's not a whole-house system. Pressure is kind of moot, but is lower than the regular faucet. On my parents' (and I have no idea which one it is), there's also this battery in the base of the faucet for something, a watch-type that seems to need replacing at least once every year since it always does when I'm there for Xmas.

I'll also mention my parents are on a well... but does anyone get these things for municipal? I suppose if you live in some of these towns that have been fucking up their water treatment and not notifying people (or even if they notify people) you might want to, but the under-sink models are pretty much just for drinking and maybe cooking water if you're patient or don't do a lot of it. I think it would be better thinking in terms of GPM than PSI.

Performance-wise, it does make a difference. Growing up in that house we didn't have one and I never noticed anything 'bad' about our water. We did have a water softener and at some point we started using filter-pitchers though I don't remember them making much difference. Since I've moved out, they've gone through two or three softener systems, one of which had an additional iron filter and the current one doesn't but is a two-tank and the iron is at the 'high end of what it can handle itself'. There's also a giant water heater and a whole-house pressure tank in addition to the tank on the system under the sink (at least I assume one of them is pressure, maybe not). Also had to replace the well pump at least once, and a significant portion of the plumbing was redone (I don't know where all what all was replaced, just that most of what's in the garage and all of what serves the kitchen was replaced, and most of the new stuff is Pex). There have also been issues with the water from the well (taste, odor) at various points which led to the initial system purchase or upgrades. I mention all that because I don't know the cause or timeline, but the last few years when I go back I'll only drink water coming from that under-sink filter (and the ice cubes are fine). I don't notice it showering on either floor, or much at the kitchen sink, but at both bathroom sinks the water has a very distinct odor, kind of natural gas/petroleum-ish. Mom notices it, Dad can't. Water has been tested and 'is fine'. :notsure: There's no oil and gas drilling/wells in their area either.
