Driving home yesterday, the strangest occurance happened. A seemingly insignificant bump, made for a concerning driving condition. Each random bump thereafter, repeated the odditiy. I'd lose throttle response. Any pedal position equated to a lack luster no-cceleration.

In summary, I tried to leave later that evening and couldn't thanks to a shoddy wiring job, by D3 Performance, some years ago. When they re-wired the truck to have the ProEFI control the throttle body.

Basically it came down to the plug being abused and worked loose to pry the wire end out of it. So then it wasn't fully clipped and retained into the plastic. The bumps would make for an intermittent throttle pedal connection.

Here is where it easily slid out from.



The protruding point of solder, was nearly going through the plastic into the adjacent wire.







Corrected, and problem solved. Thankfully.

 

Glad it was a simple fix!

 

Simple fix for someone who has troubleshot more problems on this truck than anyone.
I couldnt imagine where id start if i had an intermittent throttle over bumps issue.

I went through the pedal itself first. Took it apart and inspected it internally. Man is that a simple device. Paid attention to the wires.

There is a blue/white wire which comes off of the plug. Well during the removal of the ProEFI, that green wire in the picture above had stood out to me. Since it was "new" and I hadn't done it. After inspecting the TB, I decided to check there. Sure enough. The same blue/white wire cut and soldered to that green wire.... all in all, it took about 45 minutes to find and correct.

This is why I like doing these things myself.

Around a week ago I found your build thread and could not stop reading until I finished all 290 pages. You really should consider writing a book and finding someone to help you edit it down. You also could consider writing a fictional book. Since you already have the spies now you only need a villain and a couple of gun fights and you could ride to the rescue in your super truck and save the world.

On another subject, I have a third gen taco and have added a TRD cai and TRD cat back exhaust so far. I would like the TRD S/C but they don't make one and may not ever. They could possibly make a turbo in the future since they do have some experience with them. I do not have the patience of Job like you do so going your route is not an option for me. My next upgrade I am considering is the URD y-pipe. How much louder will it be and how much pollution do you smell as a result of this upgrade? Do you think it would affect my factory warranty since I only have 6k miles so far? My dream upgrade right now would be carbon fiber wheels. ESE Carbon will custom make a set for only $12000. This is better than the $15000 price last year so maybe in the next few years the price will come down enough for me. Where did you get your carbon fiber hood? Is it all carbon fiber or a combination of fiberglass? Thanks for you input.

BTW, it took me around 240 pages to find out what an elevator engineer does.

 

Make it an elevator gun battle, with mixes from The Rock's gun battle in GI Joe, and Johnny Yu's elevator fight in Ip Man 3, then we've got a Epic.

While retaining the OEM headers, the y-pipe will not be obtrusive. I have not seen a 3rd gen's Y-pipe, so I cannot comment on any flow improvements to be had. That being said, I don't know if it is the same as a 2nd Gen's or not? Warranty is relative to dealership.

My hood is a carbon/fiberglass combination. Purchased from VIS. The clear started flaking after some years, so I had it repainted to match the truck. Under close inspection, the weave is juuuuust visible.

There should also be HRE wheels, however, they tend to keep prices high. There fore, 2 at a time from ESE.

 

You are a very compelling writer and I already like your plot. Go for it!

 

BTW, the 3rd gen does not have headers since they are built into the head and are not replaceable. It stinks since I wanted to put headers on but found out it is not possible.

 

Are the cats formed into those as well?
