Rav-4 wheels on 2005+ 5-Lug Tacoma ?

Hi, I recently bought a 2009 2wd regular cab 5-Lug 15x6 (offset unkown) wheel Tacoma. So far in this forum and in the web I've been able to find the bolt pattern, and hub center (5-4.5 & 60.1) specs. I also know that for newer Rav-4 the wheel pattern and hub center is the same, but the offset is +45mm in a 18 x 7.5 wheel. My question is, I know that it should fit, but with the offset being +45mm would the wheels sit to much towards the inside???? I've read that for the 6-lug Tacoma and X-Runner (18x8) the offset is 30mm but they both have fender flares. I was thinking that since I don't have fender flares maybe they would look okay even tough they have a bit more offset.

Let me know what your opinion is.

 

I didn't have the patience to do all the research.
What I did do, is buy a set of factory alloys with tires off of an '02 Highlander and put them on my '08 Tacoma.
They look great, filled up a lot of that empty space and got me a couple inches lift as well.
I don't know what Toyota's marketing plan is by selling these trucks with such puny tires and wheels, the difference is pretty dramatic.
If I have this truck long enough to wear the tires out I'll put an even higher profile replacement tire on these wheels.
There's plenty of room for bigger.
The added benifit besides the appearance is that the ride is softened up,
quite a bit, being on a bigger cusion of air.

The pictures don't really give you the full value of the difference between the two tire and wheel sets.
If you can locate a good set of takeoffs from a Highlander I would go for it.
As I said earlier it made a big difference in the ride as well as the
appearance.
I found mine on "Craig"s List".
If you do find some and make the purchase you will also need to buy (20) lug nuts.
Alloys and steel wheels fasten down differently.
Check with a local auto parts store and they can tell you what they have or don't have that will work.
I bought mine online, with shipping etc. it came to about $60.00.
I'll get back to you with the name etc.
If you go with the O.E.M. from Toyota you'll spend about $6.00 ea..

The tires that were on the alloys when I got them is P225/70R16
My truck was delivered with P215/70R15.
The difference in the height is 1.55", slightly more than 1 + 1/2"
The difference in the added vehicle height above the pavement is half that, or .775", slightly more than 3/4"

Disregard that, it's just the size charts you want to look at.

Not all the tire sizes listed are manufactured, checking any makers web site can probably tell you what's available.
As to how wide you can go on that size alloy rim is info you would have to get from the tire store.
It looks like the Highlander rims I got are 6.5" width, how wide a tire can go on these wheels is advice I would get from a tire store.
The lug nuts I bought were from an E Bay seller.
Search at E Bay "Highlander lug nuts", about 10 sellers will show.
The ones I bought were from seller "massey 1946"
The description at the add reads "Lexus Wheels Lug Nuts (20) for Highlander Good Length".
These are long lug nuts and look better than the standards.
I have read in the forum that some lug nuts, factory or others break revealing a smaller lug underneath.
For this reason it seems wise to use a full depth socket and torqe wrench to fasten down the lug bolts.
Also using anti-seize compound before putting on the lug nuts is good insurance so that you'll be able to get that flat tire changed in a hurry when eighteen wheelers are blowing past you on a dangerous highway.

I am thinking to go with Cragar Rims and BFG T/A's on mine.
255/60/15's ( slightly slower / larger )
Kind of debating the warranty issues by size changing.
Guess one would only have to worry if something bad happened, right ?

Thinking about it, yet still uncertain...
Wouldn't the lack of an offset ( 0 ) stick the wheels out further for a wider stance to handle better ?

JimKellyFan, I went with the X-Runner wheels they are 18x8 with 30-35mm Offset they sit flush with the fender, 0mm offset will stick them out of the fenders and this may cause problems.

 

I just bought a set of 16x6.5 steel wheels from on '05 Highlander off Ebay. The steel ones may not be as attractive as alloy but they sure were cheap and the stock TPMS sensors should be transferable. Hope so. My goal was to get bigger tires so I'm hoping to go with a set of 245 70 16's or 245 65 16's when it's time. I'm just waiting on the stock ones to wear out.

I have an 07 Rav4 sport with the 5 spoke 18s. I like those rims and think they'd look really cool on your truck...if the offset issue isn't an issue. If you are anywhere near Houston,TX you could drop by and do a test fit...

Does anyone know if the offsets on the rav 4 wheels and the stock 15" tacoma wheels are the same?

I saw on street dreams website that they list wheels for the 2011 Tacomas at 34-42 mm. 3mm (to 45mm) is not a big difference.
