The Wrangler has no room to haul stuff around. Maybe I misunderstand what he wants to do with it, but Wranglers have zero room in the back. Not to mention... it's a Jeep.

Wrangler Unlimited with the rear seats folded flat has pretty decent cargo space. Key word - "decent"

My dad bought an 09 4-runner ( 1 week before I bought my Taco, same dealership). Between the two of us we've had 4 or 5 suv's. Mountaineer, Exploder, QX4, Blazer and I know there is another I can't think of.

So far the most capable has been the 4-runner. Rides smoother, quieter and nicer than any of the others. He got a limited, so the interior is pretty sweet. Just my .02, but if I went back to an suv def would be a 4-runner. Trying to talk my wife into getting one.

I don't get the pairing of luxury and ruggedness. Which is all the reason why I would love for Toyota to start selling the LC70 here stateside. Manual sliding windows FTW!

Yeah, I didn't think of the 4-door Wrangler. I've never been a fan of that... to me, the Wrangler should always be a 2-door rig. I guess the 4-door would have more cargo room.

    Still.... it's a Jeep.

I really like the 4 Door wrangler... If I was considering a 4 door SUV, it would be on the top of my list, mainly due to the fun factor...

I had 4 door JK as a rental for a few days in Yosemite and the Sierra Nevadas, it was the most fun driving I've ever had. Definitely better all around driving experience than the Tacoma.. however, I really needed the pickup bed..

    No mods whatsoever!
Talk him into the Double Cab Tacoma with an ARE cap. That way the cargo will stay dry and if he needs to haul something taller, he can remove it. The first time he goes to pick something up that is too tall for the SUV, he'll wish he did it different. If he is intent on an SUV, I'd go with the new 4 Runner or mid-size Lexus. Good luck.
