Are there any affordable rock sliders out there (under say $400 or so)?

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
Yup. In his defense he specified bolt on. Probably wants "true bolt on" so no drilling. Which would mean going to a local fab is easiest.

Either way, your right to get some real sliders. Even with light wheeling, it just takes a lot of stress off you and you can enjoy yourself more. Eventually, they become part of your style of driving - at least in my case. I use my sliders like tools to get around rocks, not just for protection.

Exactly, on the Jeep, you could use the sliders to push yourself around things. I'm already a little anxious about wheeling such a long truck (relative to my 2 door Jeeps), so any stress I can reduce is welcome for sure!

Steps run in the price range you are looking for, but don't offer protection and damage. Bolt on sliders have to be specifically designed to fit your vehicle. They are also much stronger. Point is, there ain't a free lunch. Those guys charge ~$800 for sliders, because that's really what it takes to provide them to you.

Just save a little more and make it the priority you think it needs to be and buy what you want.

Allpro will also run promos where they offer free shipping instead of a % discount. A lot of times that ends up cheaper than XX% off plus shipping depending on what you're buying.

its like a rabbit hole! The Apex look beautiful and then you start thinking, I'm spending less than a grand to protect a $30k+ truck and then you start looking at skids, and then...

I went with 4xinnovations and paid $280 shipped for weld-ons. Some pizza, beer, and a few sessions and I had them on. The nice part about these is that you decide how far you want them to stick out, what angle you want them to be, etc. Granted, its a lot more work than pre-made bolt ons, but you can configure it how you like. I had my rear kick out come out a bit wider than the fenders because I will get wider tires later on. Also had them angled up a little bit (around 5-8 degrees).

they do look great and that's a great price! I just spoke with a local guy (and forum member) that can weld them up for me at a reasonable cost so maybe bolt on isn't 100$ necessity.

I went through the same dilemma as you. I wanted bolt-ons at first but the price point and the fact that I'm going to run this truck to the ground before I ever trade it in let me do a "permanent" modification. If I was the type to trade cars every 2-3 years I wouldn't have done it.

that was my next question I guess. Once on, they are on (unless you get the torch out again!). I guess you can carefully paint them again as they get blemished.

Warrior Products have some under $400. They aren't true sliders, but are some pretty heavy duty steps. Link

I really just didn't want to weld on the frame of a new truck. Weld on sliders would be better for many reasons. I'll probably take these off and weld some on after I get out of the warranty period.

Hmm, sliders well might as well go full skids. Shoot I got these skids and sliders, but I'm at stock ride height and you know I'll bottom out, let me add 3" of lift $3500, no big deal, dang my tires and wheels look small let me get these SCS wheels and some A/T tires. Shoot all these nice things and I can't climb this hill, ARB's front and rear it is, you know what it's dark out, time for HID's and LED's.

You see, bad idea to get started because once you get the itch it spreads..

They're going to get blemished no matter what! The easiest way to touch them up is to just stick a big piece of card board between the body and the sliders and just hit them with touch up paint. I did 3 layers; POR-15, self-etching primer and several layers of paint. Mud flaps help a lot to keep the rocks from flinging up and hitting it though.
