Hey guys just wanted to drop in with my 2013 TRD TX, just picked it up last week with 10,900 miles on it. 1 owner truck, locally that belonged to and older man who traded it in for a Tundra. Sorry for the crappie pictures, it's been too cold for the snow to melt.20170114_162013.jpg 20170114_161933.jpg

All are safe assumptions based on what's out there. I've have not heard of anyone actually dumping their 3rd gen to go back into a 2nd. Just have to wait til NV tacoma chimes in.

Oh yea that's right I forgot about those things as I got fiberglass fenders now. I meant that if you went to the next size up being a 285/75/16 then you would have to actually cut into the cab mount which requires cutting and then welding metal plates to fill the cut out holes. Not a hard task, but not something you can just trim with a knife.

Well I ended up selling it for Paramedic school last July, long story short i got a full time position instead and was in the market for a new truck. Don't get me wrong I loved my truck and there were a bunch of features I miss but as soon as I test drove the 4.0 I fell in love with it and it practically was a new truck lol. It holds speeds a lot better through the mountains at highway speeds without downshifting a bunch. The 3.5 got it done but you could definitely notice one you started up the grade. I haven't driven it enough yet to compare what im getting MPG wise between the two.
Edit: I think the 4.0 is going to handle 285s way better than the 3.5 would have without a regear.

Since you did swap, how do you feel about the interior with the second gen? Most third gen guys praise and bash the second gens over their interior. Luckily, I am unique in that I don't need to be the most tech dude to enjoy what I got and have grown used to driving the previous gens when the new standard is available. I would be curious to see what I am missing by happily chilling in my second gen.

Yeah sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. You will definitely not be disappointed with the 4.0 as it seems you've figured that one out already. It will also handle 285's just fine.

I too just went from a 3rd gen back to a 2nd gen. Brought this beauty home last night! I couldn't handle the constant gear hunting and lack of torque from the new engine/transmission setup. Maybe it's because of my nostalgia for the 2010 Tacoma I had, but I seriously like driving this 2nd gen so much better. The sound and low end torque of the 4.0 coupled with a transmission that just shifts like it's supposed to trumps all of the new tech and creature comforts of the third gen IMO. My wife thinks I'm crazy but hey, at least I traded for a cheaper truck, right?

I'd pay that for that truck in that condition. How long did you have your third gen before calling it quits??

Just less than 5k miles lol. It was a couple long road trips from Charlotte to Washington DC that made me realize I didn't want to deal with that transmission on the highway if I didn't have to. Two people and two dogs in the truck with no gear and the truck probably shifted to 4th gear 50 times during a trip. It started to drive me insane. Even my wife who I never complained about the transmission to said "Why do you keep making it rev so high?" lol.

This is a gorgeous truck. My wife and I are starting the hunt soon for a 2nd Tacoma and the more and more I see these TRD Pro's, the more I want one. Our plan is to keep our 2011 since it's been such a tank and make it the wife's daily but after showing her this truck last night she told me we are gonna have to fight over who drives the new one daily. :D

Hardest part so far in finding a TRD Pro is filtering out all the ads that claim it's a TRD pro when they really are not. This thread has greatly helped in this regard.

Thanks man! Glad I could help you out lol. They are definitely hard to find and they will probably just get harder. You have to browse Craigslist and Autotrader every day and be ready to hop on one as soon as it gets put up for sale! And possibly be willing to drive a couple hundred miles. I put a deposit on this one before it even hit the lot - it was still being "re-conditioned" at the dealer.
