Uh. you may have yours installed wrong.

Here is the same bed step on both the '15 and '16 Tacomas.

As for compatibility, the bed mat Toyota sells doesn't say it it's for the '16, yet we all have one and it fits perfectly.

I am not ready to sell it quite yet but just wanted to get a feel for how people use it and if they find a need for it.

Ugly. Would probably get damaged offroad.
    I'd never use it.
Maybe when I'm old I'll need it but for now nope.
6ft, there's a reason my girlfriend calls me spider monkey haha. Very long legs and arms. I climb into super duty beds at work no problem without a step.

I thought of it at one point for convience for the girlfriend. Then saw it on a taco at lowes. No thanks. such an eye sore.

I specifically ordered my TRDOR with it because it does make it easier to just step up onto the tailgate and into the bed. I'm getting older (age 55) and convenience matters!!! I may not use it everyday but when I do I'm glad I have it. Since you already have one installed try using it. If you like it keep it. If not sell it. Easy decision since it's already there. I don't think you will have a problem selling it if that is what you choose.

Why do you care what it looks like from behind? You should be facing the other way when driving.

    Function over form, my man.

    Exactly... 62 and still rockin'!

BTW, OP, you need to show a pic of the actual piece in your possession, and not a stock photo.

    Otherwise, this thread will be...

I have the factory one, removed it after a few months because I didn't like how it looked, definitely makes the rear end look asymmetrical as another guy said.

It's kind of tweaked/scuffed from off roading, but if someone's interested PM me

Do you need to know, or care?
I always step into the bed when my tailgate is up. It's an old habit after having lots of pick ups with no steps and drop down bumpers, so wouldn't have a use, but can see why some others would want this.

My wife uses it but I know it's gonna get ripped off on some trail so not sure how long it will stay.

I usually just step on the tire and hop over the side or awkwardly climb into the back (picture a walrus trying to beach itself).

This is the way to go for $50 because it makes a great step and protects bumper from rear end collisions.

I always flip my buddy crap on his F150 that came with a man step including what I call a stripper pole used as a handrail. All collapsible into the tailgate. Now that Ive used my man step on the Tacoma I actually really like it when using my truck onroad doing other manly things besides hitting the trails. I figure I will remove it if I decide to do anything other than moderate trails. Im glad its a bolt on and not something intergrated like Ford did. Does this make me a man pussy? Na, simply because it doesn't have a stripper pole!

If I still had my Tundra, I would add the bed step in a heart-beat! I am only 5' 8" but can easily reach over any part of the Tacoma's truck bed and since it is s "short-bed" I can easily get to items in the bed with the gate down. Actually if I am going to put large or heavier items in the bed I simply use a moving blanket (snatched from a U-Haul rental) and push the items forward on the blanket. When I need to take the item out of the truck, I simply pull the blanket back. Of course I secure the items with a cord and I can easily reach the brackets from the ground. I had to use a step latter on my 12' Tundra. But for now...I see no need for "step."
