Don't think he would mind, I'll ask him. But if it rains I'm pretty sure we will just drink beer and do some mods or something

I'd get some armor on first before you tackle Beasley Knob and AOP, mainly skid plates and sliders

Great advice. Even with full skids and sliders, I came out of Beasley Knob with about 1300$ of damage. I've heard people say they did Beasley stock, and I'm not sure what trails they did, but I guarantee they didn't do the one I did. The hell with that place, lol
    Aop i would do again

If you go with someone who has been there and know the trails, you'll probably be good. I went with a friend who had never been either and we went down a trail that looked fun and moderate, that turned out to be more than I could handle at the time. One of those trails that once you get past the first obstacle you can't go back, only forward. I came down on a damn rock/stump right on the beginning of my passenger side door. That small area that the sliders don't cover:facepalm:

Sadly I've only hit like 1 or 2 trails there. Been meaning to go back. But yeah for GA most armor you'll need is sliders and skids. Bumpers are cool but I have yet to use it in this state, maybe a rear would be nice

A rear is helpful. I've smacked my HC bumper a few times and I'm convinced the stock one would've had damage.
Most of the trails up in north Georgia are mostly rocky. Skids and sliders are a must

Meh I don't care about my rear bumper right now, so it's like I have an aftermarket bumper haha

Then explain why there is less and less public access to fishing lakes and rivers....

We were talking about trails getting paved and/graded... The 2 that came to mind were Bell Mtn and Charlie's Creek. If anything, what was done with those "trails" allowed more (albeit easier and less fun) "public access to anything outdoors"... Now you don't even need 4wd to experience views from Bell (still wish I could've gotten up there before they paved it)!

As for river and lake fishing access, I know for a fact that the Forest Service tries to purchase new land every year through the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). States compete for funds, so there is no telling how much (if any) Georgia gets each year. But every year the FS applies for funds to purchase pre-identified inholdings and surrounding tracts.

I also know that there are over 2,770 miles of streams/creeks and 5,500 acres of large rivers/ponds/lakes on National Forest Service land alone (not including other public lands - state parks, national parks, DNR land, etc)... More than I could cover in a lifetime!

Bell was awesome before they paved it. Camped up there once and it was literally the best camping trip I've ever had. Good times, great people, lots of beers and some other shenanigans

You say there's plenty of access.... Try finding a public area to bank fish at night on lake Jackson, oconee (other than redlands)....

Not really familiar with the lakes down that way... But there appears to be a good bit of lakeside FS Ownership & three Rec Areas on Lake Oconee. No FS Ownership around Lake Jackson though.

I'm thinking AOP... That looks like a cool place! It's about 3 hours from my house so I'll probably wait for better weather so I can camp out there for the weekend. In the meantime, I have a few things I want to do to the truck this weekend.
